I think we are seeing a SB faithful on the message board right now? (see above quote)
I think lesser known teams come on here for that exact reason. They are lesser known, so it is assumed they are not worthy of the ranking they get, if that ranking is in the top 5-10. God forbid a team gets in the top 5-10 and makes a run at BYU, CSU, UCSB, Mich, SSU. And when they make that run, it is chaulked up to a down year, overrated, or "lucky".

A few points:

1. UMD did make a run and they lost.

2. Only a few people are saying UMD is unworthy of their ranking.

3. I don't think UMD beating SSU was luck. I think 99% of people here agree it had to do with UMD being better than Sonoma this year. Can they do this year in and year out?

4. You have to understand, every year some team claims "we don't get respect, blahblahblah, we are good, etc, etc.," yet they don't have any thing to show for it other than a 2nd round exit. Is it something to build on? Yes.

5. Yes, SB fans come on here. I can count them on one hand, and they point out "facts," not unrealistic observations.

That being said, I don't really follow your argument. UMD is good, but what else are you looking for? If they make it to the 2nd round consistently then you can start talking them up. Correct me if I am wrong, but this was only the first or second time they made it to the second round, right?

First.

I too am trying to figure out what RealisticObserver is looking for out of this argument. I have lost track of what he is even arguing about. :?

Not sure where UMD was mentioned in that last quote of mine? Or that I was calling the no respect card to UMD. I was responding to your comment that lesser known teams come on here and whine. I don't see that, I see responses to people that gave what appeared to be excuses for teams like Northeastern and UMD beating the big boys, SSU and Mich.
"SSU had a down year" and "Mich was overrated"

All the teams in the tourney are excellent programs. Top to bottom, in and out. NO doubt. Fans are using the message boards to talk some.

This was UMD's first time in the second round. It was the first time for a few teams, and leagues for that matter.

I am confused, who is disrespecting UMD and saying they are overrated?

Everything I have seen talks about how good they are, how they are worthy of their #6 seed, and how well they played. What is the problem?

I think there is a bigger problem with JerkWB, trying to back pedal when he left out SB, and then being like, "oh well, I didn't know that they made the semi's the last seven years...I was going on the record from 1999!"
Please shut up now...

UMD and the Pioneer league have earned everyone's respect this year, and have put themselves in position to continue to succeed. It is a very good thing, and I think everyone is congratulating them.

I think what sohotrightnow is trying to say, is they shouldn't get a #3 finish for winning one game. Like it or not, any sport at any level, that has any kind or ranking or poll that is voted upon, your past couple years performance is definitely thought upon when someone casts their vote. Like someone said, it's takes a few seasons of success time to build upon before you garnish national dominance.

Realistic Observer, is talking is Talking in Circles Observer once again. He never has a point, he just makes claims, that lead none of us to an agreed upon conclusion. UMD is very good. NU is very good. BC is very good.

Excellence is held for a select few my friend, and not every program in Texas is excellent by any means. The league came a long way this year, and it is good to see. Hopefully this is the start of something, and not just a fluke year. There are however, a few areas of our nation that still need to get it together.

there is an exception to this- Northwestern football in the late 90's and St. Joe's basketball a couple years ago. They got top seeds and didn't have much of a history to go off. ha.

Northwestern was a top #8 team that went to a BCS bowl game

St. Joe's was a #3 seed, they were a #1 seed in their opening division of the tournament.

These are similar to UMD getting the #6 (especially the Northwestern comparison)

You're wrong, you don't understand sports, and apparently numbers.

ha!

Northwestern won the Big 10, generally regarded as a top football conference. St. Joe's had garnered recognition with their, now follow me on this one, WINS over top programs over the course of the year, AND- again, keep your eye on the trail here- success enjoyed the previous year. Jameer Nelson had an attractive following prior to his senior season.
To you I add my own Ha-HA!
I could compare your complaints to those of scientist making breast implants who suddenly proclaimed he had the cure for HIV, Cancer and Heart Disease- just his trials were a bit off. The hard scientists look on with quizzical suspicion- here he was, having spent his life on silicone fluff- now proclaiming he was ready to tango with actual problems (save your chorus of guffaws regarding the perils of flat chested women- as tragic as it may be it is not a real life threatening ailment), and saying he'd done it. Yet his proof was ALMOST there. Would you trust this magician of the mammaries to save the worlds sick with out a thorough redoubt?
Neither would I. Not until a few more trials came back with conclusive evidence

It would be hard to give up on Karen though, no matter how great Pam is.

i just love the left turn this post took....

"By the way, we're done..." - quote of the year....

Congrats to all teams this past week, this might have been one of the best tournaments yet....

BIG THANKS TO THE TOURNEY DIRECTORS, THE VOLUNTEERS, THE COACHES AND THE PLAYERS FOR MAKING THIS A GREAT WEEK!!!!

Lets stop on this tom foolerly about respect, and who is overrated underated right now, there are 2 games left with four great teams...lets focus on that....we all know its OUR OWN OPINIONS, and not everyone is always going to see eye to eye...(example - our govt.)

The thing to remember is, all teams are going to have to start fresh after today....

Best of luck, and safe travels....

Train...loved the picture of the Vegas trophy...that thing is pretty slick...Is your WC a post collegiate team, you guys ever head to Mardi Gras?

One tournament at a time....

Hopefully Mardi Gras this year. We still haven't won Tahoe, so that is still pretty high on everyone's list.
