I'm totally confused how Noma is ranked higher than UMD when Sonoma lost their 3 games by a total of 15 goals with one at home while UMD lost their games ALL on the road, in Utah by a total of 3 goals. As much as I love sonoma, they deserve a #12 or lower ranking for their cupcake schedule. If they win WCLL this weekend then I stand corrected, but it seems like Noma is getting way too much love in the polls.

I think you're also creating quite a statement that UMD is also ranked too high. Both teams lost to CSU and BYU, and most would agree that Oregon is much better than Utah... I think the voters probably took the 3 game sweep of both of these teams into account when voted in the polls earlier in the season.

I honestly believe that both teams are ranked too high; however, there's only one way to find out. Let's let the WCLL tourney play out since Sonoma gets another shot at a Top 10 team (Arizona) and with a win can show they deserve their current ranking and probably get a crack at the Gauchos if they take care of business like they should.

As for UMD, I guess we're going to have to wait until Dallas for them to really prove themselves becuase their conference is so weak. You have to play the schedule that is given to you (In-Conference) and I commend UMD for making a tough trip to Utah. I still think they need to win a game agasint one of those top teams to be considered among the top 8 teams in the MCLA.

Michigan is relying on their reputation for their ranking at this point in the season. A season without a signature win for the Blue doesn't come along very often. We'll see what they can do in their conference tourney and see if they can change their recent fortunes at Nationals.

I don't have the last poll but has anyone taken the time to do point total comparrisons between the last two polls? If you take into consideration the point difference between two teams in the last poll and the ranks in this poll it's possible that Michigan may not have dropped in the ranks but could have lost a bunch of points.

A very handy tool. It would be really tough to do automatically, and a pain to do manually, but it would nice to see a strength of schedule report next to the teams to get a better idea of the quality of the numbers.

I think they are in. No one has made any moves to jump above them, even with the BC loss (again by 1!). Unless Utah upsets BYU, or Michigan is upset in their tournament, the field is set. It is just the order that needs to be determined!

Totally serious question: how do you propose calculating a strength of schedule? I need some sort of metrics to use.

Ok, strength of schedule isn't a trivial total to calculate...

Currently I'm doing the sum of the goal differential of all your opponents, but that doesn't seem quite right.

It should be a combination of ranking, record, and goal differential i think to get an accuracte picture of strenght of schedule. Am I missing anything else?

Goal Differential is tough if you don't have a cap at like 10 or something because a lot of teams pull their starters and all that stuff.

Was thinking it would be easiest to just pull it from LaxPower. No SOS is gonna be perfect, and why reinvent the wheel.
