RopeNoRope wrote:I agree how is no one talking about the upcoming AZ games with BYU.

Also, I think it is great that BYU has the manpower and resources to put out so many releases, but does anyone really care how their in practice scrimmage went this week.

Sounds like some cheesy scare tactics or maybe some people up in Provo have too much time on their hands.

"Cheesy scare tactics"??!!?? Does anybody really think they NEED to try scare tactics, cheesy or otherwise? Apparently, Utah State pulled out of the scheduled season opener at the last minute (in partial deference to another topic on this forum, at least they rescheduled...), so BYU used the stuff (field, refs, scoreboard, webcast, student reporters, etc.) that had been set up for a "real" game. Are things like "... work out kinks ... provided good game-like experience ... exposed some areas of weakness for the team to focus on ..." really all that scary? I would think that some press from a western school which actually seems to care about their (club) lacrosse team (and some press which doesn't involve strippers and legal cases) would be seen as a good thing.

I think the Arizona results will be very interesting indeed, and look forward to hearing about the weekend, and ANY stories about how the season is starting off.

Absolutely agree Laxdad. We hear complaints all the time about teams not getting releases on this site or the MCLA not getting recognition nationally. Professionally done releases are an absolute necessity if we want to be taken seriously or if teams want exposure. BYU has built a program to the point where they have staff responsible for press releases. I wish more MCLA teams would follow their lead. If you follow the typical D1 model, almost anything is worthy of a release. Certainly an intrasquad scrimmage is.

We can't judge UCSB from the season opener at Cal. Cal is a very difficult place to play. The astroturf and the short field dimensions make it especially hard for visiting teams to find a rhythm on offense. I am not saying Cal is not much improved, but we will have to see how they respond to the two losses.
UCSB did appear to regain their swagger against a Stanford team that shut down the UCLA offense in the second half. I did hear through the grapevine that UCSB may have lost a few starters (Shaw) from last year to reasons unknown to me. I still think they are the team to beat in the tough LA division.

from what i saw of chapman last year, they were one of the best offenses around. they are young but good. looks like younger teams in LA and the north are on their way up and teams in SD may be on the down?? thoughts

I've kept no secrets about my opinions on Chapman, and I will go so far as to say that I think they will be the team to beat in the LA division.

As for the teams up north, I posted before the game that I expected that Cal would be making a turnaround this season, since last year they were (and I mean almost every single player) solidly freshman and sophomores.

Looking through the league rosters, it does certainly look as though there are some young teams that will be coming back strong this year, and I think that makes a scary prospect for other teams in the next two to three years.

I think Chapman is a solid team, but lets not put too much hype into it. Last year there was a ton of talk about Chapman and it was just that, talk...Chapman definitely has the most talent, but what about discipline and character..time will tell...Count on SB improving as time goes on. They have talent and are very well coached..Also keep on eye on LMU..Their offense has a lot of talent but their D may be the achilles heal.
We will see...

since we've rallied back and forth about the la division..what about the others: central i would like to say cal poly but time will tell. the north i'll go with sonoma, but does anyone think another team has a chance at catching them? i don't know much about the south, would anyone like to comment on the south or any of the above....

Biola - 22
CSU Fullerton - 6

it was 10-3 at halftime. I believe we (Biola) scored 9 in the third to really put it out of reach. Fullerton had some bright spots and had us worried in the beginning with 2 quick goals.
