I heard that he thought it was Cindy Sheehan running in front of him...
I also was wondering yesterday if The Daily Show would have any comment on the episode last night - and they didn't disappoint. One of the fun things on the show are the captions they put on pictures - my favorite (all sing along now) "Cheney's got a gun..."
The fact that the recipient of the "peppering" was a lawyer has also been great fodder for the comics - all the lawyer jokes get to be recycled.

Here is a great article about the jokes from last night:

I also know that Yahoo has some jokes from the late-night comedians (Letterman, Leno, Stewart, and Ferguson). I guess Conan could not deliver that because he was in Finland being honored by the Finns. Any word on him getting a job as the inspector of saunas?

Im not seeing the big deal about this whole thing is, other than a horrible accident for the person shot. I think the media is blowing the whole thing out of proportion. If I got shot in the face, I would rather have people take time to make sure im ok than tell everybody that something happened. But maybe im just old fashioned that way.

I think the main problem everyone has with this is that the administration relied on a citizen (whom, I believe, wasn't even hunting with the group) to report the problem. The excuse was "As soon as the news hears about it, everyone hears about it." To me, I think it's ridiculous to have this incident reported by the property owner. For all they knew, she could have come out and said that Cheney went on a shooting spree and killed a few people. When all is said and done, I think the real deal is how the situation was presented to the public: in a careless and mindless manner.

Part of that problem was that Cheney didn't bring his whole press entourage because he probably wasn't planning on having to make a press release. Granted that the white house knew about it quite a while before the media did, but this isn't exactly a matter of national security or anything. I mean if Cheney had been shot and killed, that would be one thing. But some guy that people don't know (especially a lawyer) getting shot by Cheney, while still news, is not that urgent. The media is making it a big deal, but they have yet to say how its a big deal.

I know that about 80% of Leno's monologue was about Cheney's accident. I laughed.

TV Comedians Target Cheney Accident

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Television talk shows took aim Monday at Vice President Dick Cheney's accidental weekend shooting in Texas of a hunting companion. Here are a few of the jokes.

---

"Late Show with David Letterman," CBS:

- "Good news, ladies and gentlemen, we have finally located weapons of mass destruction: It's Dick Cheney."

- "But here is the sad part - before the trip Donald Rumsfeld had denied the guy's request for body armor."

- "We can't get Bin Laden, but we nailed a 78-year-old attorney."

This things happen all the time when quail hunting....The little suckers are so unpredictable when they flush, you never know the direction they will go, but you better know where other hunters are.

My cousin and uncle were both shot last year by a young inexperienced hunter last year. Got some pretty interesting pictures from the next week, if anyone wants to see what it looks like when shot at close range with a 20 gauge, PM me and I will shoot you the pics.
(they are both fine)
I never had a steady girlfriend like you, but I did get kicked in the balls once by a mule.

I heard that these were pen-raised Quails that are released from a seperate truck in the hunting party. It has been a very dry season in Texas and thus there is little foliage to protect them from predators.

It's impressive that 37 years after the fact, you still can enjoy a good chuckle about a fatal car accident.

Why not go all out tasteless with "I'd rather hunt with Dick Cheney than be Ted Kennedy's brother"?

Somehow, I don't think Cheney shotgun jokes will be funny in 2043.

I don't think it's tasteless at all Hack. Ask Mary Jo what she thinks.

The question remains - Would you rather hunt with Cheney or ride with Teddy?

I never thought I would live to see a vice president shoot someone else. I thought that this went out of style with Aaron Burr.

And yes, as an elected official, who shot someone (whether by accident or intentionally) he needs to explain himself. It is called accountability.

Here is a question for all the legal scholars out there: If the guy dies, does Cheney get charged with manslaughter, involuntary or otherwise? The guy already had a heart attack attributed to his injuries and survived his intially injuries because there was EMS on site for Cheney.

Where is the emergency session of Congress to debate this like there was for the Schiavo case?

I think the real question is, what, if anything, does that have to do with Dick Cheney shooting somebody in the face?
