I think the media is blowing the whole thing out of proportion. If I got shot in the face, I would rather have people take time to make sure im ok than tell everybody that something happened. But maybe im just old fashioned that way.
I think the main problem everyone has with this is that the administration relied on a citizen (whom, I believe, wasn't even hunting with the group) to report the problem. The excuse was "As soon as the news hears about it, everyone hears about it." To me, I think it's ridiculous to have this incident reported by the property owner. For all they knew, she could have come out and said that Cheney went on a shooting spree and killed a few people. When all is said and done, I think the real deal is how the situation was presented to the public: in a careless and mindless manner.
Part of that problem was that Cheney didn't bring his whole press entourage because he probably wasn't planning on having to make a press release. Granted that the white house knew about it quite a while before the media did, but this isn't exactly a matter of national security or anything. I mean if Cheney had been shot and killed, that would be one thing. But some guy that people don't know (especially a lawyer) getting shot by Cheney, while still news, is not that urgent. The media is making it a big deal, but they have yet to say how its a big deal.

I know that about 80% of Leno's monologue was about Cheney's accident. I laughed.
