MVP

Just another reason the argument for MVP should not be measured by stats alone.

If you are comparing his stats to past MVPs, you should compare the league as a whole to the league in years past and realize that the quality of play is down all around so the mvp's numbers should reflect this too.
You can't honestly say "Oh (insert random Aggie/Longhorn) had 4 goals against Colorado State when they beat us by 27, that warrants an MVP..."

Judge it by stats, Files wins hands down.... Judge it by team performance and there aint no way you can tell me a UT or A&M kid deserves it considering this is their worst season in years... I despised UNT in my playing days, but even I'm not that big of a homer....

I'm not making the argument that the UNT guy shouldn't be considered or deserve it. It seems to me that according to your logic and following an argument solely based on stats then you are simply allowing offensive players into the MVP discussion.

Can a middie who has lesser stats but great defense win it? Maybe there is a face off guy out there? Or how about a goalie or a long pole? Why wouldn't they be considered?

I'm not saying that there is or isn't a better offensive player out there, I'm just saying don't argue simply based on stats or because someone thinks he is the best offensive player of this year in a "down year" as you put it.

Just my 2 cents.....

Chris is an excellent player and his numbers back that up. However, I would be reluctant to give MVP to a kid solely based on his numbers. My idea of MVP is the player that can make the biggest impact regardless of the team that he plays for.
The coaches doing the voting should look for the player that makes plays against any team-the guy who given the chance to pick anyone, coaches would have him on their team. If those doing the voting think that Chris is that guy, more power to them, but this should not be based on stats alone.
In my opinion, there are plenty of guys around the league that have larger impacts on games(groundballs, defense, scoring, assists, clears, etc...) than Files, and those guys definitely need to be considered for this award.

Again, I am not meaning to take anything away from Chris because he no doubt is a great player....just making conversation.

cheers

I think one player is being overlooked.... Stuart Shaw, #1, from Texas Tech. Against A&M this year, he scored Tech's first four goals of the game. Also, on Tech's St. Louis swing, he took the Washington U game on his shoulders and pulled Tech through. Look at Tech's schedule, and then look at Stuart's 3 goals per game, and clearly he the most dominant midfielder in the LSA. Stuart sees just as many longpoles as Files, but the difference is that the poles are quality. Take CSU, Lindenwood, New Hampshire, A&M, and Oakland and put them against the powerhouses that UNT has match up against. There is no comparison. If I am picking teams, I am taking a lot of guys from the LSA over UNT's best attackman.

MVP

I agree with HighAlt and LaxC21 on this one. There is no reason to base this on stats alone. Sure they could fall into the equation, but it would be wrong not to consider defensive players, face off guys, ect. As for any Aggie/Longhorn being automatically throw out of the race, that is ridiculous. How can you justify that? I am not saying that a player from either of these teams necessarily deserves it, but they shouldn't be thrown out of consideration.

A bad year? Yes, by their standards, but the last time I checked each of these teams has only one LSA loss. They are still top tier teams in this league. That being said I have not seen enough of the other teams play this year to say who deserves. Right now I would place my vote for Tech's goalie, but like I said I have not seen enough of the teams this year.

I agree with highaltlax...Stuart Shaw is a big time player who has scored aginst every team Tech has played and usually he scores on a pole or a very good d middy

Chris Files is the best lacrosse player in the LSA. Give me names of anyone who is better. Chris can't decide who he gets to play but he can score on any team. He has been a huge reason UNT has had a winning record the past three years. I would rather play next to him then any other player in the LSA. Who do you play for Cousin17?

Best in the LSA? So if I average 4.64 goals a game against teams like Rice, LSU, Trinity, UTA and Tulane, will I be league MVP?

Ok I am not making an argument for that Files guy from UNT, because well he is not the MVP. He does well for UNT but that is the bottom line. But highaltlax, are trying to usher in an early April fools day with your comment about #1 over at Tech. The only player on that team that deserves the nod is the keeper. Tech has a strong and fairly athletic defense, but stick skills and quickness are not their overall specialties. If it wasn't for the Tech goalie the losses would be even worse. From what I have seen from #1 is that he has no, 'I mean no' left, and that for every 20 cranks he takes maybe one hits the cage, including pipe, not back of the net. I'm I saying that #1 is a bad player? No I'm not, but he does not do the little things like, play great defense. From what Iv'e seen he plays selfish, And as far as lifting Tech up against Wash.U. for one bro lets not mislead anyone into thinking you are talking about the Huskies. Tech played Wash U of St. Louis which is a major difference, because Wash U of St. Louis is well....no one. He perfoms big against scrub teams, and against good teams he is a non-factor. And you can't group A&M in this year because obviously they're not on their best game this year, and that is an understatement.
As for CSU does it matter how many goals you score when your team get beat 21-7. I'm sure CSU was just going through the motions and had the scrubs in, who are probably good enough to play first string for a lot of teams, by the first quarter. As for the games against Lindenwood and Oakland I wouldn't say that was hanging in there. Give the credit were your credit is due with your goalie is the true difference maker on your team, and perhaps in the league. I say your team cause only a homer would tout #1 as your MVP. Give it to the man in between the pipes. He is the only one that saved the losses to the big teams from being worse than they were. I hate to seem that I am lashing out against you our your special #1 but, I come bearing the truth and man the truth hurts. I just can't believe you would short change a keep as good as Techs. I mean come on. No Contest. And the Files arguement is null and void as well. In my opinion, as I have said many times before, the real issue is not the MVP. The MVP does not matter if he, nor his team can stand up to anyone outside of conference with any significance. The winner of the LSA will be the 16th seed and have to play numero uno in the tourney and get whuped. Worry about team, not individuals. Teams win championships, individuals turn into has beens.

Actually, since this is for who would be MVP of the LSA is shouldn't really matter as much what the player did in OOC games, even if they were top 25 teams, but rather just how he did against the other LSA opponents in order to show that he is the best of the LSA. If he impresses the OOC teams then he should get consideration during the All-American talks.

MVP doesn't = team with the most top 25 teams on their schedule whom they got beat by but was able to put a few in the net (or stop a few)

The two weekends of LSA Playoffs WILL go a long way in determining who is the league MVP. Lets just see how it all unfolds. Lots of big LSA games to be played towards the end of April.

Im not forgetting Tech's goalie, I am saying Stuart is being overlooked. As for his "skills", you try and guard him. Gary Gait is all left but I don't hear people calling his awards "Early April Fools Gags".

I'm sorry, I will just say it. Files is NOT the best player or best offensive player in the LSA. Oh...and I have seen him play. I saw how effective he was at the A&M game before A&M pulled the starters in the first quarter.

As far as leaving OOC games out of the MVP factor is ridiculous. The MVP should be judged from the first game to the last game which will include some OOC opponents; therefore they are necessary to decide who the MVP is. Also, great players step up in big games...so if you score 4 goals in the first half against CSU (before they pull the starters), then that is pretty impressive and should be considered.

It would be great if people would put their names and the school they play/ed for. Then we can see where some of these ridiculous arguments are coming from.

Chris Files for MVP.

So this is an issue of the big schools keeping the little man down?

I don't think that anyone has made a ridiculous argument in this forum...including you. It just seems everyone but you are able to provide support for their argument.

As far as you insinuating that everyone on here is biased toward their own school...I think that is completely false except for maybe the UNT guys. It seems to me that you have guys from all over willing to listen to argument for just about anybody as long as there is evidence to support the argument.

So...quit whining and provide some more support for your argument besides Files stats.

A&M...hope that makes you feel better.

Anybody but Files for MVP...just kidding, I'm sure the kid deserves a look.
