Tennessee Wesleyan @ Furman will be a big game between 2 teams fighting for the 2nd playoff spot in the Central. TWC's first division test.

Any word on UNC-C vs. Elon. I like the way both those squads play. Any voice over would be appreciated!

(from another thread)

The final was Elon 15, Charlotte 8 in one of the most bizarrely officiated games I've ever been a part of.

I'm not sure what the rules are about it, so I won't elaborate anymore at this time.

However, who is in charge of officials for the SELC, because I'd like some clarifications on a few rules that I've now gotten completely different explanations of from different officials. Is there a league contact, or does the MCLA handle all of that?

One comment on the actual play of the game though, Elon's goalie was completely on fire tonight, easily the best goalie play we've faced all year in my personal opinion.

Wow, I did not see that game getting lopsided. I think it's safe to say the SELC just heated up.

Was at the UNCC ELON game. Was 6-0 real quick. UNCC came back to get it to 7-5 at half then the refs took over. I am an avid lacrosse fan and I was disgusted by the way the refs handled the game. There was a scrum at a timeout and it looked to me like an ELON player straight up closelined a UNCC player and UNCC went man down for 3 minutes no releaseable. After that any check that UNCC threw was a penalty. At the end of the game charlotte's top defender looked like he had enough after probably the worst call of the game when the faceoff man for UNCC de sticked the ELON player and was called for a slash. I think he got ejected but got his point across. Please, if you are a ref this can not happen again. They just took the game out of the players hands and had the charlotte team play man down pretty much the entire half. I think Elon might have won the game anyways, but the reffing in the game was absolutely appaling. Hope they can rematch in Atlanta.

I am pretty sure I am beating Sonny to the punch...but I don't think criticizing the refs here is the time/place.

I am surprised to hear that about the officiating at the Elon-UNC-C game. When we (UST) were down in Atlanta over President's Day weekend, I was very impressed with the SELC officials. I think there is always a little apprehension or worry that the officiating when you travel out of conference might be a lot different than your home conference, but, in my limited 3 game experience so far in the SELC, I thought the officiating was extremely fair. Not doubting the recap of the game, just giving my (very limited) experience.

Don't get me wrong, and I apologize if I offended anyone, but I think the refs should let the teams decide who win, I think anyone else at the game would agree with me in saying that there was no chance for an even game. Not to take anything at all away from ELON, they were the better team. I just hope there is a rematch because the game was fun to watch in the first half.

I'd agree that in general the refs we have in the SELC are fantastic. In fact, the triple OT game we played against St. Thomas (@Emory in Atlanta) was perhaps the BEST officiated game I've been a part of.

Amen.

We came out really lethargic to start the game in just about all areas other than face-offs. When it went to 6-1 we swapped goalies and mixed up our middie lines and everything started clicking for us it seemed until the scrum...

...then it didn't even matter what we did.

As I said in the other thread (which I guess was last weeks, sorry about that.) Elon's goalie was tremendous. Steve Ruane (#4, defense) scored our first goal by carrying it coast to coast, wrapping around the back of the cage and scoring over a completely confused Elon defender. But after that nearly all our goals were off not just one good pass, but multiple good passes. The goalie owned any and all attempts to just shoot on him. Also, when our rides were working especially well, he would carry it out himself, and let me tell you, the kids might be the fastest player on their team.

(Our lethargic start is exactly why I always dread our first game back from Spring Break. How do other teams handle Spring Break? Do most of you just take a week off and let the guys do their thing individually, or do you try to play games and keep everything organized for that week?)

That's exactly what you're seeing in the Coastal v SCAD game. It's the first weekend of their spring break and I guess when they scheduled it they figured a lot more would be up for St. P's in Savannah. Living and learning in the SELC I suppose....

We just give the guys the week off. Right now raising dues however much we'd need to in order to have a spring break trip isn't worth it, and it's not bad having a break mid semester to heal up, especially when you don't have the bench other teams do.

We definitely avoid scheduling games on either weekend of spring break if we can, a lesson learned quite a while ago.

But have you noticed a tendency for your team to come back from that week lacking the focus and urgency that they had prior to heading wherever they went for spring break? We normally practice Tues and Thursday each week, but this week we tried to up it to Mon, Tue, Wed and then had our game last night. The thinking being that getting back into it whole hog would force them to refocus, but it obviously didn't really help us out.

If it hadn't happened to us so often in the past I wouldn't even be concerned, but this is quickly becoming habitual.
