"Heat" pocket

One of the teens I coach recently acquired a head with a "heat" pocket in it. I asked to see it just to mess around, and this thing had the most hold/ ball retention on it i have ever seen, and it threw perfect.

I mean, I can string a pretty fine mesh pocket, but nothing that even comes close to this awesomeness. Anyone know where I can acquire a head with this in it, or where I can get one strung?

To me it looks like it has stolen many of the patented Rock-it Pocket features to become an incredibly heavy traditional string-job:

It's custom... but does have attributes of each of the various rock-it-pocket styles.

Nice work on keeping the nylons and twists symmetrical though.

I just strung up a traddy in a new excalibur and it really only takes a few extra twists and around 'n overs to make a "heat" pocket... but the time you spend making the head aesthetically pleasing you pay for with weight and maintenance.

As much respect as I have for Rock-it Pocket and what Flip has done for the sport out west, I highly doubt he was the first to innovate crosslace twisting.

As far as the heavyness of the stick, I always like my stick to be top heavy since it feels like i can generate more head speed, so the added weight is not a problem.

So does anyone know where I can get a heat pocket? or would anyone with skills be willing to string one up for me?

If you know of anyone who did the patented interlocking knots or a custom like this of any kind before the early 80s, please let me know. The Heat pocket is technically different, but just about all of its components come from the Rock-it Pocket.

No idea, I've never used one in the rain. I generally dont like the idea of using traditional pockets or tradtional variations in wet weather because everything gets really whippy

If you want a sick pocket my buddy max mcool one of the stick tech guys from inside lacrosse strung up a nasty pocketcalled the big word. Im gonna atempt to string one of these bad boys later this season....since its mostly nylons it holds up really well in the rain, but the only downside is that it takes a bit to break in. Its my favorite trady string job. Its on E-lacrosse if you search for it...i would have put up a picture if i knew how to post it.

ya I use a pita variation that holds up nice in the rain, I used 4 different strands of crosslace to make up the pocket. In my opinion it keeps the diamonds consistent and I haven't had to adjust it once.......I also run a sidewall string through the bottom two holes on the sidewall and wrap the leathers around that, so if it shrinks up in the rain, you can easily adjust the pocket depth by loosening or tightening the string.

Edit: the middle two leathers, I strung it on a PP so I discovered this trick on accident

yeah i was thinking of stringing the pita variation. I kinda like the look of it better than the standard zig zag down the middle.
