i heard 12-6 OSU over Idaho from Ryan. I guess it was 5-4 OSU at the half and the Vandals goalie suffered a concussion in the 3rd, when they let in a few... I'll let Ryan get on here for the details.

just a comment about the oregon game since the thread is now locked. oregon did play their entire depth chart, almost everybody saw time by the end of the first. both teams played hard and despite the score it was a friendly, and long, game between the two teams.

The Central-Western game was tied at 4 at the half. Western came with their A game the second half today. We didn't come prepared and didn't play well in most aspects of the game. WWU jumped out 9-4 and we couldn't dig our way out of that large of a hole and that was pretty much the ballgame. I think Western proved today that they're still the team to beat in D-2. Hopefully both squads can make it to the postseason so we can possibly get another shot at them.

I'm just getting home from Whitman now & I'll do write up on the pncll site tomorrow afternoon, but this was a good weekend for us (obviously). We came out firing against C of I, scoring what I believe was 11 unanswered after they put one in off the initial face-off. The Whitman game was interesting to say the least. We scored first, then quickly found ourselves with no momentum down 6-1 playing catch with the goalie. #2 Sunn scored two very quickly on EMO for WC late in the first & I was really starting to question what I had to do as a coach to get this going. I did nothing, but we battled back & were down 2 at the half. Players started making plays & we got back to winning the ground, it was fun to watch. End result was a beautiful fast break goal from Peter Dills in OT that started with a gb created by our riding poles.

Overall, we've started truly playing unselfish lacrosse. Of the 30 goals scored by us this weekend, 23 were assisted. Many were EMO, but it's nice to see individual efforts that result in open shots for teammates. Attackmen Brad Karr lead the way scoring for us this weekend finishing with 10 goals & 5 assists.

As far as the Oregon blowout goes, that really just looks like depth... 6 upperclassmen scored points... 1 of them was goalie Swanson with an assist. You've got to let them play rather than hold the ball & it looks like Oregon did unload their giant bench. Not many of the players scored more than 2 points today.

Another note on the Oregon game. . .19 different players scored goals, and 21 different people are on the scorecard.

I don't know what else you can do beyond emptying your bench and becoming very deliberate. . .

Sometimes a lacrosse game can resemble a one-on-one game with Kobe Bryant. . ."winner's outs."

I certainly feel for WSU, but everything I'm hearing is that they battled their hearts out and never gave up, which can be extremely difficult in a game like this.

A tough start for the Cougars, but I know it will be all uphill from here.

I rarely come on this board anymore, but it is a little off-putting when you come on here and the first things you read about are people thumping their chests and patting themselves on the back. I think if someone asks "So, could we get more details," then great, but I think this board would be cleaned up quite a bit if people simply used this forum to post information and congratulate another person or team. Just food for thought, not wanting to start an argument at all.

I hope everyone has a great season. I'm fired up that lax is starting again.

"Discuss" is a big part of why this weekly forum thread exists, Chris, and some of us do appreciate getting game details and analysis from the participants.

D2 is a wide open horse race, and the jockeying for playoff positions is pretty fierce already. Should be a fun next couple of months, and when the dust finally settles there could be six teams qualifying who all have a chance to capture the title.

Chris,

I certainly understand your frustration after what must have been a very disappointing loss. . .but like Dan said - we are hoping for as much positive game discussion as possible in these threads.

The most "off-putting" thing in this entire thread for me is when your teammate mentions nothing but the officials. Whenever you lose a game and point at the officials (even when the officiating isn't good) it comes off pretty poorly. Personally, that's the last thing I want to see in here.

On a personal note, I am extremely pleased that Coach Schmitz is back in the fold (albeit on a limited basis) for the Missionaries - I know his coaching will pay huge dividends for Whitman as you guys fight for the league championship - and with Dave on the sidelines I think Whitman is on the short list of teams that have a great shot to win the whole thing.

Congrats on the big win vs. PLU and best of luck to you guys as you make another playoff run in '08.

Oh the life of a Specialist...

I'm pretty sure the ball is still stuck in my stick and I got called for with-holding. Oops.

We had a blast playing in Reser Stadium today and OSU out played us. We ran with them for the first half and the wheels came off in the third quarter. I will put my full report up from the weekend tomorrow. I dropped everything off at my office so I'll put things together in the morning and just recap here briefly.

Oregon was deep and moves the ball well. They definitely look like a team that made it to the national championship last year.

Oregon State also moved the ball well and has some solid middies capable of dropping down and matching up with the poles.

It's always tough to start against a top 5 team on the road and then have another tough game the next day but it was a great experience for Idaho and the Vandals are looking forward to their OOC trip to work on some things before coming back for a 6 game conference stand.

I thought the officials were great in both games. We got destroyed on the new face off rule for the first half of the Ducks game and once we made the adjustments were able to finally take a couple. Lacrosse in Idaho will continue to grow. I have a ton of freshman that I expect to stay on the PNCLL map and will hopefully attract more of the same. The bridges are starting to connect.

We had a great trip to Oregon overall. You always want to at least go .500 on the road but it was a great learning experience for the young Vandals. Thanks to both the Ducks and Beavers for hosting. As an entomologist I really can't make fun of either mascot!

More to come tomorrow, thanks Oregon and Oregon State!

Jason,

I'm not on the team anymore, so this has nothing to do with being disappointed--take what I say or leave it, and a long discussion about this won't get anyone anywhere--it'll just put more dead weight on these boards.

Maybe I should change my moniker.

Just change yours to the Seahawks like I did..........jk. I changed mine so as an alum, it wouldn't look like I was speaking for SOU since I am not a player anymore. Congrats to all the teams this weekend, they should just have the D2 nationals be all PNCLL teams since every program looks to be nasty good. :D
