PNCLL Week #4 (2/20-2/26) -- Predict/Report Scores/Discuss

Will said the other day that he'd just play "Dark Side of the Moon" in the background if we didn't have commentary this weekend to see if it linked up with the game at any point... so at least you'll have some decent music.

Is there such a thing from UM?

I wonder if the dark side would sync up like The Wizard of Oz? I prefer to ease on down the road rather than follow it though...

Oregon up 8-0 right now on Idaho. Have no idea where the game is or what, just heard that for anyone that cares.

13-9 the final from missoula. the zags were in this game, and even found themselves with a late lead, until the last four minutes. Montana put one in to tie it and from then on it looked like the bulldogs stopped playing team offense and they had guys just trying to take the ball and beat Montana's goalie from the outside with a defender on their hands. Colin made all of the saves that he needed to and Montana was able to keep their offense trucking in the last three minutes of the game. For those of you that did not watch this game online you missed out, it was cool to see. Will thanks for getting that game online and for your commentary on the live action forum.

Excited to get the chance to see Whitman FINALLY beat PLU. I never saw it as a player. They picked up a legit, freshman middie, and their O remains a two-man show. Nich had 5 and #10 (Tupper?) had 4 of their 12. #10 is dangerous in transition, and in general I'd keep a pole on him if you can. Please take body when you slide to him, or he'll fool you with his stick. I don't think he's as strong as Kennedy was, but he's pretty smart on O and took good shots (got 3 minutes of penalties, though). Despite playing him three times before and knowing his game, we couldn't prevent Nich from his 5. I don't think he's changed much from last year--very smart, very skilled, but not fast enough to create for himself. He's still an effective finisher, but...Their D is OK. They look a little young. Goalie is solid low. One thing that hasn't changed for PLU is their effort and their energy. I didn't see anyone give up, and they fought hard on groundballs. For the first time in a long time, Whitman simply outplayed PLU.

Nice work by Whitman in that game. . .for sentimental reasons, I think I'm glad I missed it. . .

Oregon beat Idaho something like 24-3. Not sure what actual score was.

Montana vs. Gonzaga

Postby kladis on Sat Feb 23, 2008 7:17 pm

So was the Montana/Zags game the most penalty riddled game in history, or were the refs that picky? From the write-up it seemed like there were penalty minutes than non-penalty minutes.

If there really were that many "penalties" that affected the game, then of course they all should be called, but if helmet brushes and the occasional slap on the shoulder pads are being called, then maybe we remind ourselves why pads are worn in the first place...

What a great game though! Solid effort, exciting, entertaining, etc. Both squads put on a great show.

we've had games with more penalties for sure, but I doubt we had more in a quarter than we did today. The officiating started out great and was pretty good overall actually, things just got weird for a bit. I don't think it had an outcome on the game really (though there was a moment I thought it would) as things evened out for the most part by the end.

I saw Gonzaga last week play Boise and they looked much improved today. Good luck to them tomorrow against Washington, I'm hoping to make it out for that one.

Oregon over Idaho 21-4.

Oregon moved the ball well and we just couldn't shake out the first game rust.

I noticed a lot of big scores this year in Div II and too a lesser degree Div I. A number of teams have put up 20+ goals while in turn giving up 10+.

Are offences really that much better than the defences?
Are teams simply putting the emphasis on offence and trying to out score their opponents ala Mike D'Antoni and the Phoenix Suns.

I know people have been saying there have been a lot of penalties called but I don't think that it would cause the score to be as high as they are.
