Hi Guys,
I am a Bridgewater State Lacrosse player. As you all know we got into a mix up about 2 years ago where our coach pretty much took the money and ran, ruining a lot of our program. The year after, a lot of our loosing season was attributed to the constant looking for a credible coach, which never happened. This year is going to be different. We moved down to class B and are more hungry than ever. The band of brothers that has formed here at BSC is unlike anything I have seen and we finally have a coach who has seen a lacrosse stick!! My question is this. While we all took the shock of loosing at least 800 per person 2 years ago, we are looking for any alternative to sponsorship, funding, or anything of the kind. We have attempted a few fundraisers which only gets you so much. If you guys have any method that has worked for your team I would be much appreciated to hear about it. Thank you very much.

Try a Goal-a-thon
Have you guys ever tried a goal-a-thon? If not, you can run them yourselves or use a professional agency like Metro Lacrosse to do it (I think some of the other teams in your league (Northeastern?) use(d) Metro; perhaps they could give you some feedback, etc.

Northeastern has used Metrolacrosse's goal-a-thon. It is an excellent fund raiser that you do very little work for. You can easily make a few thousand dollars. The draw back for you guys though is you won't see any of that money until the summer at the earliest. The donations are based on goals scored in your upcoming season. It is good to get your team going in the right track for the next year though.
Family, friend, alumni and business letters are always good ways to get the funds in to start. Have donors check to see if their company will match charity donations, a lot of companies out there do, and it can turn a nice $500 donation into a quick grand.

-More players you have the more revenue, get everyone possible even if they arent good at lacrosse, they have checkbooks
-Talk to parents, many parents-especially who are alumni already donate to the schools general fund, get them to donate that to the lax team
- Schools are multi million dollar corporations, they have money it is just sometimes difficult to figure out who can write the check
- Admissions offices will often dish out large amounts of cash, you just have to show them something in return. The lacrosse team can be a great marketing tool for them, make them "pay" for that.
- Athletic departments always needs help and will pay for it, you can wipe down wrestling mats, clean up garbage, sell food etc. Go over youself to them
- Sell t-shirts, so easy to sell t-shirt for 10-15 bucks when they cost you probably 2-3 bucks to make. It is a great marketing thing too.
-Student governments control lots of money and will give it out, put together budgets and beg
- If someones parents/alumni are at the executive level of corporations they might be able to dish out money.

here in the northwest we have the privilege of having multiple venues for concerts and activities. about four years ago we got hooked up with the security company in charge of the local venues and have done security and these venues. when you get 20+ guys for about 4-5 hours of work you can easily make 400-500 a concert. as a team we made a requirement that each person work at least 4-6 concerts a year, this helped wit league dues and travel costs. plus it got our name in the community in a positive light. if you have this opportunity you should check it out
