If a defenseman lifts an attackman's stick right as he shoots, and the shot comes to you at 40 mph. . .you get a save. . .do you deserve it when my 5-year old son could catch that ball? Maybe not, but it's a save.

I hate to say it, but I agree with the guy with the really cool shades.

Maybe we need to start recording defensive saves?

I believe only the designated Goalkeeper may officially receive saves, Ryan. But I certainly have seen D-men jump into the cage when the Goalie is caught out of the crease and stop shots, preventing a goal from being scored by the opponents. I remember one of my own teammates once catching a shot in his gloved hand and then throwing the ball as far down field as he could -- only to be whistled for an illegal touch. But he did make an unofficial "save" despite the infraction of using his gloved hand to do so... and then got needled by his teammates for "throwing like a girl" (Yes, we were politically-incorrect for this teasing)

I really was kidding. Unless we start giving saves to attackmen on successful rides.

this may have been poor etiquette on my own part Dan, but i have done that before. In a previous season we had a d-pole, not just step in cage and take a shot, but actually stopped the shot by catching it in his stick. i felt like he needed one chalked up in the saves column.... I mean d-poles never get stats online anyways  so it was a chance for him to see his name in the game report.
