WCLL Week 8 (3/16 - 3/22): Schedule, Thoughts, & Scores

Postby OAKS on Sat Mar 19, 2005 1:50 pm

Score was 3-2 with GT leading at the half. I have a lot to say about this game, but don't have the time. Tech's defense controlled the game in the first half, limiting UCSD to about 5 decent looks at the cage, while the offense missed the goal completely on about 4 or 5 10-yard shots. Score should have been about 5-2 Tech. Tech slipped a few times on the field (their first game on grass this season). I believe one or two resulted in goals for UCSD. There were 2 disallowed goals by UCSD because of illegal procedure calls. 2nd half Tech let things slip with UCSD putting in 2 goals near the end of the game when Tech was pressuring and trying to get the ball back. In the 2nd half, UCSD ran just about their entire offense through #5 and #10, with most looks coming off moving the ball after pick & rolls behind the cage. Tech was able to stop this after adjusting, but couldn't get the ball back on offense for any long period of time. I got a lot more, but as I said, don't have the time. Basic thing is Tech played uninspired in the 2nd half and UCSD won. The teams were fairly evenly matched.

And the UCSD heckling was still in its infancy... they need to refine their yells and get closer to the sidelines to have more of an effect. :) Some SDSU guys were in the stands as well.

Oregon wins. I don't have the scoresheet, but I believe the final was 13 - 8. Ground balls and face-offs were the key to the game, the Ducks definitely controlled those two facets of the game. Their offense also moved the ball very well today and kept our defense on their heels. I can't remember the last time we gave up that many goals; it wasn't this season and we may not have given up that many all of last season. Best of luck to Oregon on their trip back home and then out to the Michigan Invitational.

As reported by Laxdad:

I believe the final score is:
UCSB 8
CU 7
Word is that UCSB was originally ahead by 3, then let CU get ahead by 2 with about two minutes to go whereby UCSB scored 3 quick goals to win in final seconds.
