Scholarships to Lacrosse Players in GRLC (?)

Just curious as to what sorts of rules there are concerning scholarships given to players in the GRLC and other MCLA teams. Does it depend conference to conference on whether or not you are allowed to recruit like that? Are there other "legal" ways to recruit players, that is allowed by the GRLC or MCLA?

As I was told there are no real rules for recruiting...but I could be wrong

from what i hear is that you have to follow NCAA recruiting rules... which doesn't really make sense to me if we can't offer scholarships and athletic departments have 5-10 people who only work on compliance, which is making sure they don't break recruiting/contact rules... they way i see it if they are going to be paying for lacrosse either way it would come down to 2 things 1. if they really actually like the school and want to be there for 4-5 years and 2. how much they would actually have to pay cause some people cannot afford 2-3 thousand a year and still go to school

We do not have to follow NCAA recruiting rules. There is nobody in place in the MCLA to regulate compliance on when you are contacting players and if it is within the acceptable amount of phone calls, text messages, etc. Just like there are no rules about when practices can begin and how many hours a week a coach can make a player committ to the team. It would not be an effective use of the MCLA resources to try and get involved in these types of details. There would be gray areas impossible to regulate as well, like a coach that also works with the high schools. I also do not know of it ever really becoming an issue.

You cannot give scholarships because it creates a very uneven playing field. Teams with strong alumni support and/or strong school support would be able to offer scholarships and tilt the power in their direction, while most schools could not. There is no rule saying that you cannot waive a players dues though. Dues are 100% at the discretion of the team (your school may or may not have a say).
