The LMU Chapman game should be a fun one.

Also, can't wait to see how USC fairs against UCSB. It will be a great test for a young team that might just surprise a few people.

Biola will be playing Concordia-Irvine on Friday night at 7pm. They are a brand new team that may possibly try to join the WCLL next year.

Biola will also be playing the San Diego Kings on Saturday night at 7pm. They are a team made up of junior college players from around the San Diego area.

Sonoma vs. Santa Clara , Chico State vs. Cal

Postby socallax on Wed Feb 06, 2008 12:43 am

The Sonoma vs. Santa Clara match up isn't usually a game that peaks my interest but this year is a little different. This is Sonoma's first real game with their new coaching staff and I can't wait to see how they play. My prediction is that Coach Gomez has brought back that Sonoma fire that seemed to be missing the last few years and Sonoma gets their first big win of the year.

Sonoma 14
Santa Clara 4

Another game this weekend that always seems to be a battle is the Chico State vs. Cal game. Cal is always tough at home and I know Coach Dini gets fired up when facing the team he used to coach. Chico State is not only looking for their first win but to avenge their playoff loss to Cal last year. I think this will be a low scoring game and I have to give the edge to Cal because they're at home.

Cal 7
Chico State 6

Other Games:

UCSB 12
UCLA 6

Cal Poly 15
UCSD 3

Chapman 15
LMU 8

UCSB 10
USC 5

Game Predictions:

Pepperdine vs UC Santa Cruz at Santa Cruz 1:00pm
This is a really intriguing matchup between WCLL B division runner up and and budding program. I predict a high scoring run and gun balls to the wall affair. Santa Cruz wins in a SLUG fest. 17-15 Banana Slugs.

UC Santa Barbara vs UCLA at UCLA 1:00pm
I heard that UCLA gave the Gauchos a run for their money in the fall. I expect the same outcome. Unfortunately the overrated Gauchos wont get exposed until BYU next week. Gauchos in a squeaker, 7-5.

UC San Diego vs Cal Poly at CPSLO 1:00pm
Don't know much about these two teams but i am banking on the experience of the Mustangs to take care of business. Poly over UCSD, 10-4.

Loyola Marymount vs Chapman at Chap 1:00pm
UPSET ALERT!!!! The LMU Lions have a high powered offense that is balanced with young and old talent. Chapman better bring their A game and show that their new coach has brought a new attitude in the Cougar den. LMU over Champan 11-10 OT. :o

San Diego State vs Occidental at Oxy 2:00pm
SDSU with ease.

Chico State vs California at Cal 7:00pm
In a battle of two great goalies leading two mediocre teams, Schneider edges out Raab, and Chico goes 0-3 in a close contest. Bears win 6-4.

Claremont vs UC Davis at Davis 12:00pm
Dont know much about either team but the CAL vs. Davis score leads me to believe a close battle with Claremont taking over late in the fourth. Claremont wins 9-6.

UC Santa Barbara vs USC at USC 1:00pm
The trojans have been building a team over the last few years and last years score vs. the Gauchos does not show their actual potential. USC needs a few more years though. Gauchos win 11-4.

Santa Clara vs Sonoma at Foothill HS in Pleasanton, CA 1:00pm
This season Noma brings the fire back to the WCLL North. Dont know much about Santa Clara but expect the Cossacks to put up numbers. 16-4 NOMA.

Don't be surprised if the Sonoma v. Santa Clara game is closer than you guys are predicting. Last year, SCU outplayed SSU for 3 quarters and had the lead going ito the 4th before succumbing to their inexperience in big games. SCU brought back virtually the entire team from last year. Sonoma usually puts together a good squad.....it just may not be a blowout as is being predicted.

Sat Feb 09

UC Santa Barbara vs UCLA at UCLA 1:00pm

Unless the Bruins play old school Mike Allan slow ball I can't see this one being all that close.

Loyola Marymount vs Chapman at Chap 1:00pm

Wow...Chapman is the real deal. They have some serious talent and depth. They are my favorite to win the LA Division. While I was big on LMU to start this season, I really don't think their defense stacks up with what Chapman will throw at them. LMU will score, but Chapman will score a lot more.

Sun Feb 10

UC Santa Barbara vs USC at USC 1:00pm

USC could catch a tired UCSB by surprise. I'll still take SB by at least 5 goals.

Santa Clara vs Sonoma at Foothill HS in Pleasanton, CA 1:00pm

Interesting to see how this one will go. Sonoma is trying to recapture their old swagger...but do they have the players to match the new attitude? I agree with many of the posters that that this will be a very close game.

I was under the impression that they are a club team for at least a year. The schedule listed on laxpower is a hybrid schedule.

From the lacrosse site:
Players for GCU’s lacrosse club team will compete in the Western Collegiate Lacrosse League (WCLL), a conference within the Men’s Collegiate Lacrosse Association (MCLA) and will compete with other NCAA Division II schools.

Kinda weird. It also states that they will be competing at the Division II level (central region).

Rope, do you know what GCU has been telling their recruits? Have they offered scholarships?

As far as I understand GCU is not part of the WCLL. They are not listed as a member anywhere. I believe they are already admitted into the NCAA, but I'm not sure.
