What does a shot pipe shot count as other than a shot on goal? Does the keeper get credit for a save on one?

It is just a shot on goal, if it hit the pipe it could not have gone in, no save. We don't keep stats on saves by goals, only by goaltenders.

A shot that hits the pipe is a shot OFF goal. Shots on goal are defined as shots that either the goalie saves or that end up in the net. Shots off the pipe count the same in the scorebook as a shot 7 feet wide.

Any chance you are a goalie?

Back in my day, I tried to convince our stat girls that if my own team tossed it back to me in the crease it should count as a save it was a ball directed in the general direction of the cage.....

didn't work....

goalie only by default. I didn't think they were counted as saves, but I did think they were shots on goal-but the explanations here do make sense. RATS-I was trying to squeeze two mores saves out of my last game (first one in net in 4 years) and get that save pct. over 50%

This is the correct explanation. It amazes me what some teams count as a save. A shot that hits pipe is not a save or shot on goal. We had a GRLC game last season where we scored 10 goals and took 25 shots. (not all on goal) At most the opposing goalie could have had 15 saves. They claimed 32 saves.

It's also well documented that the number of faceoffs won each year in DI is significantly more than the number of faceoffs.
