I agree with Dan and Rob, as in any sport comparing eras is difficult. However, I think you could look at teams and compare them on impact, dominance, and just natural talent.
The 1997 and 1998 UMD teams were the first to be invited to play at a National Tourney, first to have individual honors at a national tourney, and they had talented players that are being named for an "all time team"
And they had freshmen, that eventually became top players in the league and nationally.
It maybe apples to oranges to pears with other teams, but I think that 1997-1998 group would be holding their own in the USLIA now, and would still be a top contender for the UMLL, as it is today. And that is pretty good given they were 10 years ago when folks here still spelled it LaCrosse and asked "what is that basket on your stick?"
The 2005 gopher team was very talented, and I would give them votes for a top 10 team.
2007 UMD played the toughest schedule ever, and had strong results, and would be a top team.
2008 has a tougher schedule, and we will see if they learned and improved from 2007.
umll all time team??

You're out of your mind
Agree-
Athletic people playing lacrosse vs athletic lacrosse players.
There were a few studs that could easily be on the all time team, and with the athletes could possibly have kept it close on those teams back then though.
From UMD back in the day that could possibly make it iin my book.
Blaze Leutem, Corey McKusick, Aaron Kalis at LPM, Colin Anderson, Brian Finnnvick, Gourley, Farrel, Dahliger(sP?)

I am not saying win it all, but as a whole they were good athletes in that group, and could compete at todays level.
Maybe not against 2008 UMD or top 10 USLIA, but at an A level. Which with what they were working with back then, -"first day of class also meant first day you ever saw a lacrosse stick" was pretty ahead of the curve.

this also is an endless and pointless discussion.
I guess the point is that there were some pretty good players coming through the UMLL, and some pretty good teams. Not only for their era, but any.
It would be interesting to know how some of those players would have been if they had started playing lax in 6th grade.
For example: McKusick, Dalagher, Farrell, Habisch, I think would have passed right by UMD and been playing D-1 somewhere.
