New York - HBO's "The Wire," which opened its fifth season Sunday, has gotten little recognition in Tinseltown. Executive producer David Simon says that's fine with him.
The series has been acclaimed by critics and has a cult-like following - but has earned just one Emmy nomination in four seasons.
"Secretly, we all know we get more ink for being shut out. So at this point, we wanna be shut out. We wanna go down in flames together, holding hands all the way," Simon told Newsweek.
I also love Entourage.

If there were ever an 8th grader that I were afraid of it would be that dude Michael - Chris's protege.
Do yourself a favor and rent the other seasons!
Micheal is a bigger dog now, he's running a few corners. I never felt more sorry for a kid then Dukie. He's just absolutely trapped and could be so much more!
Oh i have watched seasons 1-4 on multiple occasions, before selling them to gamestop to get my 360. But I look forward to the season 5 series coming out on DVD so that I can watch the downfall of the Stanfield empire.

Well she better not sing to the cops or she might get a visit from Snoop and Chris...they'll be real brief with her.

I like it
As for episode two: Micheal showed a little crack in the armor last week. I haven't checked out the 3rd episode yet, but I think there was something there.
I'm digging the Sun paper sceens. I read the worst opp-ed piece on the new season. A guy that actively compares himself to Templeton trashes the show. Do you think that why Simon made that character such a D-bag?

Disclaimer: I have DirecTV so I can't watch the episodes early.
I'm hot and cold on the new season so far. I'm trying not to let the media commentary taint my opinions but it seems everyone and their brother has an opinion on this season. I'm not sold yet on the newspaper story line. The faked story came off a little obvious to me but I'm willing to let slide because McNulty messing with that body was far more crazy to me. Has he really gone off the deep end? Is there anyone out there that knows if it's true that a M.E. can't tell about postmortem bruising? I just don't know.
But still, it's 60 minutes that seems to fly by in 10. I still miss Omar...not that there's anything wrong with that but I'm glad to see Avon getting back on the scene. Is anyone buying that he's all "Westside" has to stick together and he's forgiven Marlo? Not me says the white boy from the 'burbs.
As for Chris, I don't think this life is for him but I really worry that he's going to end up dead for it. Look at what happened to the last banger who showed a soul..."Where's Wallace, Avon? Where's Wallace?" Does this show seem like it's going to have a happy ending for anyone involved?

Yea......that would be a big negative. McNulty is going off the deep end. That dead body sceen was something else.
I think the fake story was being portrayed as something that happens more than we know or would like to admit. That's why it played out in that regard. There's obviously some character development that needs to happen with that guy too.
In the 4th episode everything starts to get rolling. That seems to be the MO for the Wire.

And of course I meant Michael, not Chris...stupid bloodstream isn't getting the caffeine to the brain fast enough.
Whatever happened to just reporting the news? How many more Jayson Blairs are out there? At this point, I'll take it as a plot device with the knowledge that David Simon has a serious ax to grind with the Sun. Hopefully, that story line will get better.
On another note, what happened to B'more's love for the O's?????

i dont like the McNulty 'messing with teh body' thing. Too Sheild-like and outlandish for this show.
I am dying for Omar to make an appearance and i think Avon is cooking something on the back burner as well.
I like the lead editor character from the Sun. I think the newspaper angle is pretty cool.

if it is what i think it is, it just shows the first time they met and they got all hammered on the night shift. it is available on amazon.com for free. look up any season of the wire and check the bottom of the page.

There's some buzz about something else. They might be doing a couple of additional episodes that predate the first season with Bunk and McNulty.
I saw the 5 minute snipet your're talking about on Demand. There's a few others that are pretty cool too.

Ep 3 was ok...little slow but you can see things developing. Some good quotes and McNulty is back to being McNulty

I've seen the three episodes this season but only have seen one from the previous years - really need to do the back story. My only problem - living in white bread middle America, I have a hard time understanding the brothers when they're talking sometime. Can we get some subtitles for the white suburbanites please?
