By my count, there are only five MCLA Div. 1 teams with 1-A football playing in MCLA Div. 2 this upcoming season (2008):
Alabama (SELC Div. 2), San Jose State (WCLL Div. 2), UNLV (WCLL Div. 2), New Mexico (RMLC Div. 2), and Wyoming (RMLC Div. 2).
Are there any others?

Just so everyone is clear - there are NO teams with D1AA football playing in MCLA Division 2. They are all Division 1 as far as the MCLA is concerned. If their conferences are allowing them to play an adjusted schedule, that is between them and their conferences. From a national perspective they are considered D1 in every way (requirements, awards, national tournament, etc.).

Georgia Southern has a 1-AA football team and is listed in the SELC B.
App State has a 1-AA football team and is listed in the SELC B.

If they don't have 1-A football, they can play in either MCLA division.

Sonny, I was referring to this. App State has played in the SELC B tourney in recent history.

It's been known to happen. I meant 1A, not 1AA.
To repeat (correctly this time), there are no MCLA teams at schools that have 1A (FBS) football that are in our Division 2. The MCLA automatically recognizes all teams at 1A football schools as Division 1. No exceptions. The schedule they play is up to them and their conferences, but from a national perspective they are always D1.

I'm sure you're mistaken. App. State beat Michigan this year in football. How could they do that if they're 1-AA?
(Yeah, I know: U of MI is still a heck of a lot better than U of MN )

Just for the record, UNM was told by the RMLC that they would stay a Div. 2 for this year in conference play, we had no choice in the matter and I personally think it is a good thing. Listen this whole D1 , D2 thing means nothing when you live in a place that English is a second Language and folks think a Lacrosse stick is for Turtle fishing at Navjo Lake or Elephant Bute.
As for UNM there are more obstacles here then I ever could have imagined but we are seeing real progress and our focus is on development and developing the new High school programs in the local area that will eventually feed into UNM. If we have to play D1 next year that is fine too. Our victories are not in wins and losses but on player development and knowledge of the game.
On the D1AA thing. Liberty University my old Team is D1AA in Football so are they now D1 in the SELC?
Best of luck to everyone as they begin their seasons.
