WCLL Articles

Postby CPLaxGM on Fri Jan 04, 2008 2:35 pm

WCLL Enthusiasts,

Since stepping down as the Cal Poly head coach after the 2006 season, I had a little extra time in my day that needed wasting. I had a hard time deciding if I should spend it watching more reality TV, learning how to knit, or cleaning out my garage. I chose none of the above and decided to write some articles about the WCLL for the College Lax website.

The first one, a wrap-up on the slew of recent coaching changes, is done and posted on the main page. Many thanks to the coaches for taking a little time to provide feedback for the article.

Next on the agenda will be fairly standard season preview articles on all of the various WCLL Divisions. The Division 2 preview should be out early next week and the Division 1 previews will follow throughout January.

I hope everyone enjoys the articles.

I also wanted to let everyone know before the season starts just what to expect for later in 2008. Although CollegeLax is going to send a little compensation my way, these articles are essentially a volunteer gig. I won't have the time and/or resources to travel throughout California and Arizona to catch all of the major WCLL games. I'll do my best to catch the key match-ups, but the reality is that most of the games that I'm going to cover will be in the San Luis Obispo/Santa Barbara area.

Luckily, there are some good teams coming into both SLO and SB, so that should help provide a certain level of interest for everyone. I'm sure I will make a trip or two up north and down south, but I can't really guarantee anything. Just wanted everyone to know where I'm coming from.

Best of luck to everyone around the league this season,
Marc Lea

Great job Marc!

WCLL North Preview

Postby CPLaxGM on Thu Jan 24, 2008 7:16 pm

The season preview for the WCLL North is now up:
http://www.collegelax.us/news/2008/01/2 ... cll-north/

And if you missed the Division 2 season preview, you can find it here:
http://www.collegelax.us/news/2008/01/1 ... n-preview/

The Central division preview should be done by Saturday, and the LA and South previews will be up early next week. The season snuck up on me a bit and the articles are a little later than I anticipated. But it looks like it will work out OK - with the deluge that's hitting the state this week, my guess is most of this weekends game are going to get postponed - so except for a couple of games, the season previews should actually get out before the games begin.

WCLL South preview

Postby CPLaxGM on Sun Feb 10, 2008 1:19 pm

Not sure if anyone noticed, but I never got around to the preview for the WCLL South. I had planned on getting that out this past week, but work got in the way. I think I'm just going to skip the South preview now that the season is well underway. I'll make sure those teams get some coverage during the course of the season. If you have any suggestions besides the typical game coverage type stuff, feel free to send those my way.

Next on the agenda, the upcoming BYU vs UCSB game.

Also, I was considering doing a weekly preview on the biggest games on the schedule for that particular week. Is that something people would be interested in checking out? I wouldn't try cover every upcoming game, just a few of the key match-ups. Any input you have is welcome.

Since there are a number of interesting divisional and OOC matchups this week, I went ahead and did a preview of the upcoming week in the WCLL.

http://www.collegelax.us/news/2008/03/0 ... -march-10/

And it even got posted before the LMU vs Florida game began (by about 1 minute).

If people are interested, the Week Ahead in the WCLL could become a regular feature. Your feedback is welcome.

Had planned on doing another Week Ahead in the WCLL article this week. Swamped at work and I haven't had any time. May still be able to get it done tomorrow, but obviously have already missed previewing one of the key games of the week in the ASU-BYU matchup. C'est la vie. Hopefully will have it out for tomorrow for all of the games remaining this week.

Another "Week Ahead in the WCLL" is up on the main page. Obviously, I missed a week (real job was hectic), but I should be able to hit each week from here on out.

I'm going to try and get these out every week before any of the games, but these Monday and Tuesday games are a killer. It's tough to digest all of the results from the weekend and get a preview for the next week out the following day. We will just have to see how it plays out.

Another "Week Ahead in the WCLL" went up this afternoon. Might have picked the wrong week to write about how good of a season the WCLL is having, after the way the OOC games went tonight. Oh well, can't change it now, just have to hope that Davis and CP play well, and the rest of the games in Florida go better than they did tonight.

In case you didn't notice, another "Week Ahead in the WCLL" article went up on the main page yesterday.

Hoping to catch one of the games in SB this weekend, but I probably can't make it to both. It's a tough call - the matchup between the traditional powers on Saturday, or the game against the new kid on the block on Sunday. I haven't had a chance to see ASU in person this season or last, so I'm leaning toward that one.
