Actually, I don't like June Jones..my friend that plays DT for Hawaii says that no one there thinks he's going to stick around.

So basically, if that holds up then he's following the current coaching coaching trend of lack of class...or manliness....but I guess "manliness" is a relative term.

June Jones, Hawaii Coach - 1999 - Present

8 years at one school in the era of Saban and Petrino seems pretty damn good to me. Is he less "manly" if he leaves to go to a bigger school? He also took an 0-12 '98 Hawaii team and turned them into a 9-4 '99 co-WAC championship team. He didn't leave after that, and he didn't leave after nearly dying in a car accident in '01. How long does he have to stay there for him to have enough "manliness" for you?

Horn, WV had their shot and couldn't get it done - which is sad. they looked like world-beaters last night.
Anyone hear Frank Deford's editorial on paying college b-ball and f-ball players? He does make a lot of good points.

I agree they BLEW IT in the backyard brawl...Pitt was playing like USC did a couple days ago....

At the same time, I wonder if the outcome would have been the same if Pat White didnt get hurt in the first half...the back up was similar to that of Brooks Bollinger preformance....

Holy crap. You people are crying because I said "manliness". I simply said I didn't like June Jones and Stryker started asking about Juice's manliness for Illinois. Here's what I said:

At least Brennan took the beating with some manliness.

I said Colt Brennan took it on the chin like a man WHICH IS A FRIGGIN' COMPLIMENT...but I'll go ahead and apply it to June Jones, just for you because you decided that reading is overrated (just like Hawaii).

Promising your players the world then peacing out after you're the drunk freshman girl to the UGA fraternity brother in the Sugar Bowl is pretty BADASS in my opinion. He deserves his own letter in the alphabet of manliness. In fact, can he adopt me and teach me the ways? Because money is the only thing that's important when you're getting almost a million a year. Just ask Petrino, Saban, Rodriguez and the rest of the coaches that are highly trustable, they'll back you up.

So only a "little" bit of steroids is ok in the Bonds era? Or perhaps only "some" NCAA/school rules violations are ok in the FSU era? Just because other people do it (and are looked down upon)...doesn't mean it's OK.

When he complains to the media about the old carpet in his office and all this crap with his meager $800,016 a year salary...yet his team practices at a high school field and can't even afford shower-heads. But he still decided to start talking to other schools before his team even played. But I guess it's OK to go along with the curve of classless/money-hungry coaches peacing out on their team.

But yeah June Jones' stock right now is about as useful as the Hawaii's offensive line was to Colt Brennan a few nights ago. I can only hope the SMU checkbooks are equally as manly.

And I think Hoskins simply questioned your blind dislike of Jones. How can you dislike him? He has only taken a team that started with nothing to a BCS game. He has the greatest disadvantage in all of college football out there at Hawaii, you know how hard it is to get recruits to come there? Yeah it's great weather but that's a lifestyle commitment to go to school 3,000 miles and 2 time zones away from even California.

If June Jones does go, I don't think he lacks class for that reason. He has simply taken that program to the pinnacle of possibility. If they don't win it this year when would/could they?

If Jones goes to SMU (as rumored), imagine what he could do to revive that once proud program. Texas has a few more recruits than Hawaii...

Well other than the points I listed above...actually wait...how about for the points I listed above? Or how about I have listened to one of my buddies that's actually on the team and whose opinion means more than any of ours? Is it ok that I listen to him and agree with him? Or does the collegelax message board not agree with the decision for me to choose to dislike someone? I am allowed to dislike/like anyone I want to...just like all of you don't like me because I feel that teams with absolutely no strength of schedule needn't be rewarded. I don't have to like someone just because their team wins. I also despise Mack Brown and the way he talks to the media about other teams/players and how he acts like he's the second coming.

Speaking of talking trash...how about the fact that I don't like June Jones because he talks trash about other college players? Calling Tebow, the friggin Heisman winner "not a natural passer" and says that Tebow is a "system QB". Which, for those of us that have eyes and can "make math" have seen how many times Hawaii threw the ball and how many times they ran it. June Jones is an idiot, because he made idiotic comments to the media on several occasions.

He coached the team and they had a good record and all that jazz, he's a good coach against subpar opponents...when he's not talking idiotic trash about other players and peacing out on his team.

If Jones goes to SMU (as rumored), imagine what he could do to revive that once proud program. Texas has a few more recruits than Hawaii...

Yes they do...and it'll be pretty hard to convince them to go to SMU and not Texas, Oklahoma, Michigan (see: McGuffie), A&M, Tech, and the already present schools. In addition to the fact that Texas is highly sought after from other schools too. Like, UGA's QB...who probably plays in a passing system too, according to Conquistador Jones.

Points taken, and I don't hate you or your opinions, in fact I rather enjoy them.

I think myself and others simply reacted to you speaking your displeasure with someone who on the whole is seen as a good guy. There must be a flip side and I appreciate your inside information, I may have to look at him with a more discerning eye in the future.

And I hate Mack Brown too...

Doubly agreed. Esp with the dip-stain on his shirt after most of the games. I'd smack him but from the looks of it...his stepson might jump in from the sidelines

I don't hate June Jones or Hawaii like I hate say....my old school's financial aid department....or soccer moms with their dogs in their lap that rear-end me at a stop light and are more worried about their dog...just as an example...of course. If I am flipping channels and I see one of the 4 things I things I don't like college football...I say "oh man he sucks" and then forget about it. I like 99% of the things in college football...and not the BCS....ohhhh I hate the BCS.

Playoffs dammit. I want a "true champion" and not a "media champion".

Yeah, But who doesn't hate Mack Brown HA HA HA HA

I was very impressed with West Virginia's win over OU in the Fiesta Bowl. WV is a better team with Freshmen RB Noelle Devine in the game, OU couldn't stop him. IF Pat White returns to WV next year look for them to be amongst the contenders for next years national title.

Very true. What happened with WVU/Pitt that kept WVU outa the title game? I cannot imagine them losing to Pitt so something had to go wrong...were they blindfolded?

Pitt was a very streaky team this year. They got up for the game and probably played some of their best ball of the year. WVU was out of rhythm all night and just couldn't get anything going. They didn't play bad, Pitt just played above avg and kept the WVU O off the field. The weather played into Pitt's hands as well. Mountaineer stadium has a fairly slippery field when wet.

If your "hatred", or dislike, of June Jones is limited to his complaints about old carpet in his office and the hearsay from one of this players, then I guess I can't argue wit that. But I'd rather praise a coach than hate a coach that took a team as "awful" as Hawaii to a BCS Bowl.

TWELVE teams get to go to a BCS Bowl. TWELVE. Of those twelve, four (VT, OSU, OU, USC) feature a coach who is in the top ten in college football coaching salaries. Jones, at a bargain $800,000, which is below the average D1 football coaches salary, took his team there. If I'm UHawaii, I'm thrilled with the return on my investment. He can call out all the carpet in the university, and half his players can hate him. But if he's so terrible, where is the mass exodus of players?

Oh yeah, they're not going anywhere because they're busy collecting accolades including five All-American awards, 52 all-conference performers, and eight NFL draft picks. If I'm your friend, I'm happy to have Jones as a coach, for giving me the opportunity to play in a bowl game, get seen by NFL scouts, and possibly collect an award or two along the way.

And we're not talking about a team filled bluechip recruits either. Jones recruits (1) Polynesian kids, (2) kids who have lived in Hawaiʻi or have family here, (3) military kids with no permanent home, (4) kids recovering from injuries and (5) kids from broken homes, as well as the (6) the rare kid from the penal system (Your boy Colt Brennan).

I guess I just find something admirable about a guy who takes a traditionally awful football program, filled with a ragtag bunch of forgotten recruits, to a BCS Bowl game. Did they get stomped? Sure. But so did Illinois, Oklahoma, and probably Ohio State today. And those teams got stomped with a heck of a lot more resources and talent than the team Jones led to the Sugar Bowl.

That being said, I don't like Mack Brown either, I hate the BCS, and I agree that strength of schedule matters, but that doesn't mean that all teams with cupcake schedules are horrible teams. Boise State and Utah are cases in point.

The problem with WVU against Pitt was that Pat White was injured and missed about 75% of the game. The fiesta bowl was the first time that I had watched him play a full game, and while he is not a good passer at all, his speed and ability to make guys miss is incredible.

He will be a pretty good WR for someone in the NFL.

Well I am not sure if it's 100% finalized...but June jumped ship for more $$$ even though Hawaii offered him $1.5 million+ a year.

Teams with cupcake schedules aren't horrible teams.
They just haven't proved that deserve to be at the big games as opposed to teams that did. It's like you're having thanksgiving dinner and you have an extra seat and you can invite 2 different people. Someone you invite might eat, or they might not. No one gave WVU a chance and they won. No one thought VT would lose and they did.

Boise played and beat a BCS conference team, so did Utah. They just so happened to beat the worst BCS conference champs. Hawaii couldn't beat one of the best. I guess when Fresno State goes undefeated next year...the argument will change depending on whether or not they play the 09 Big East 4-way Tied Champ South Florida, or undefeated UGA.

I think half of the problems are caused by the ranking system, in addition to the BCS. Why the #1 team in the country is the underdog in the national championship game is ridiculous. That makes no sense (according to logic) whatsoever. Shouldn't the best 2 teams in the country be in the game...and the team that is supposed to win be #1? If it's based on record, then why aren't teams that go undefeated (Hawaii, Auburn 2004) playing in the game? The BCS and NCAA swear that they care so much about the kids and the sport...yet the college football post season is 100% determined by money/profitability/ticket-sales/etc.

Apparently a college football playoff isn't as profitable, according to the people in charge...or else we'd be doing it.
