One thing I've always thought would be cool in Vail was an MCLA All-Star team of sorts. We've done it mostly via CSU and UCSB in the past through Team Rock-it Pocket, but it's great to have Cornell players asking, "Where's that guy in the yellow helmet from? He's pretty good."

I would be very interested in doing that. I play for Northeastern and I know that a couple of guys from the team last year and this years team would be very interested in doing that.

Ok. Let's do a "Team USLIAUSLMDIAUSLDIA". Who's in and what position do you play? Anyone have hookups in the way of places to stay?

get a team set up, playing in vail was one of the best experiences of my lacrosse career.

Hell, I'd help organize it, I know of more than a few MN boys that would like to play.

I've taken 4 teams down there and know of a good condo company to reserve housing. If people need help organizing, I can help. I'd be interested in playing as well...

If this is going to happen how would it be done? I played in the shootout for the last two years on two different teams and I know that some teams just throw people together. Some guys from BC would be interested too I'm sure like Chris Ward (2nd team all america D) and Austin Gardner-Smith (3rd team all-america Attack). I started for NU last year as a midfielder and I might be able to get Craig Sini (2nd team all-america Goalie). Just let me know if those guys would work.

2008 Vail

Postby comatose on Thu Feb 21, 2008 12:47 pm

Did anyone go last year (in 2007) to Vail? I heard there was a 30-second shot clock rule, how'd that work for everyone?

I'm not a fan of slow lacrosse, but when you play with a club team, or a group of guys you don't know that well 30 seconds doesn't seem like enough time to setup an offense. It might work if your team gets in a bunch of practices beforehand, but c'mon, 30-seconds for a summer tourney at THAT elevation?

If anyone went, could they lemme know if it worked out okay, or was a total mess (i.e. a lot of clock violations, balls thrown wrecklessly at the goal)?

I think having a 90-second shot clock would be more ideal for a summer tourney, or at the least 60-seconds like they have it in the MLL.

Thoughts!???

The shot clock at Vail has been in place for many years and it is generally received with positive reveiws. It's 30 seconds once you are over the midfield. Easy to keep track of, easy to generate offense, hard to slow the ball down and be boring. In Vail, unlike the MLL, shots do not have to hit the goal to get a reset. Shots can miss by a little (at the ref's discretion) and the team can back up to get possession again and a reset. If a team cannot generate some sort of offense during that time, then frankly, they should find another tournament to join because they probably don't have the requisite skill needed to compete at that level.

Thanks for the insight on point. Having a 30 second shot clock start up after entering the midfield does make more sense, and obviously provides for more entertaining lacrosse.
