Having games at those times are one reason why people think our league is fairly "bush league". Is there a reason besides they waited around two long and the 15+ domes around the metro, st. cloud and shattuck were full?
I think i would rather play outside in mid February then 3:45am, and 6am.

Not that I know of. I'm sure it's one of those things that wasn't negotiated because it never occurred to anyone it would ever happen.
I don't think it's going to help with recruiting new officials, either.
Here's a question: if you have a 4:00 a.m. game, do you stay up late or get up early?

I don't know if I'd berate teams for going the extra mile to get some out of conference games in.
I remember being in Minnesota in May and thinking the weather awful, I don't want to think about February.
I do agree though that it will be a hardship on everyone involved. Here's to no injuries!

I am going to go out on a limb and say that a program such as Minnesota did not wait until the last minute. They have something like 8 out of conference game on their schedule including the Jenkins Invitational. They clearly did not "need" these games to satisfy the minimum requirement of the conference and MCLA.
I understand your point, but given Minnesota's track record (pretty good) I would say we can't make such inferences in this case. Either way Pinball, you are a good egg and you bring up a valid concern. hopefully in the future our teams will have a enough "clout" to get better times haha, right.

Can't we do both? You have lights on your field, don't you?
Seriously, outside in February could mean -40 wind chill and two feet of snow. Whatever game that would end up being, I don't think you could honestly call it lacrosse.

These times were the solution to a very real problem with field space in our area. I don't believe there are 15+ facilities who are able to host a college lacrosse game. Although not directly involved in the scheduling of these games, I have empathy for the folks who were. I also am thankful we'll get these games in, despite the challenge.
I definitely apologize to the refs, and to anyone who thinks this somehow damages our leagues reputation. It was unavoidable this year, and I expect it not to occur in the future. I'll be stopping at Dunn Brothers at least once, so whoever wants coffee, get your order in ahead of time.
I would argue with Pinball's proposed alternative, lacrosse can not be played outside in Feb.
We had a lot of fun trying to get field space for the CJ3 Invitational. Our initial request was submitted last summer, and was denied only after almost all the domes had been booked. A lesson learned on my part, and I plan to not let this happen again.
We are a little gopher in a very big pond at the U of M, and we're trying our best to gain legitimacy every year. I wish the collective consciousness of our school would recognize more quickly the enormous benefit our guys get from our program, and reward their effort with even greater facility support. Although recently we have received more appreciation and support, as the school recognizes and rewards the extraordinary experience that we provide. For example, we are hosting at least one game in Nagurski this year, something which was unthinkable even three years ago.

I'm sure that there was a lot of effort put forth in trying to arrange for better times in the domes, but why so many really poor times this year as compared to previous years? Plymouth, Stillwater, St. Cloud, etc. all provided more hours and decent times in the last few years. I really do feel sorry for those teams who are playing at those absurd times. The OOC teams that are coming in and having games at those times can not be very happy. I must admit though that it will be a learning experience for all involved. Hopefully some of those OOC teams will want to return to Minnesota at some time in the future!

I was being a sarcastic as no one in their right mind is going to schedule an OOC game outside in Mid Feb outside.
I would suggest though that you continually bug all of the local domes if you want to get the times changed because i know that people lock in lots of time then cancel some when it comes down too it (i worked for the City of Plymouth). You might just get lucky. Also you could try (if you havent already) to bug Shattuck and the St. Cloud crew as i know they have large amounts of time blocked off for stupid reasons and might open up for a paying group with a legitimate cause (CJ3).
I will still stand by the fact that having games at 3am makes the UMLL look bush league.
