Why oh why the hate??? Where is your spirit of Aloha? Keep in mind in your statistical analysis that Brennan missed significant time in several games this season which negatively impacted his production. Brennan has in fact had a very impressive career, though his stats last year were better.

From the same article:

Jones, attempting to clarify his remarks, said he had no intention of demeaning Tebow, whom he called "a great quarterback who'll probably win [another] national championship.

...Auburn coach Tommy Tuberville's roots are in defense. His Tigers limited Tebow to 201 passing yards, his second-lowest total this season, and held McFadden to 43 rushing yards, his lowest total of the season. Tuberville said all quarterbacks are system quarterbacks.

"Look at Gino Torretta," said Tuberville, referring to the 1992 Heisman-winning quarterback from Miami. Tuberville coached the linebackers on that team. "He was the product of a system he ran for five years. He learned how to run it. Tebow was the old single wing quarterback. He just ran the ball and threw it. You can score 20 [rushing] touchdowns if, every time you get the ball inside the five, they call your number."

Tubberville goes on to tout McFadden for the Heisman. It is no surprise that a coach would be singing the praises of his star player on the eve of the Heisman ceremony. It is no different than any other year and I don't know that it should be interpreted as "whoring" or some other crime against the football world.

One corollary to the theory that the SEC is stronger than the WAC is that Tebow has a stronger supporting cast than does Brennan; affording him better protection, making big plays for him, and keeping defenses from keying solely on stopping him.

I think they are both outstanding players and that Tebow will win the award.

people always bring that up, Tebow has to line up against 5 star recruits on the other side of the ball too. Bigger fish in a bigger pond.

June Jones is an idiot. Fine for him to tout his own player, i don't agree with attacking another player's achievements.

It is brennan who has been running the same system for 3 years, not tebow.

J. Jones can judge the system up close and personal next august in the swamp. I hope he brings some of his hometown scumbag fans for a taste of southern hospitality as well.

Precisely, this is Tebow's first year starting as a QB.

I (personally) would rather play against San Jose State, Idaho and Louisiana Tech defense every day than to line up at scrimmage and see Auburn, LSU, Georgia, Tennessee etc etc etc every week. But that's just me I guess.

I think McFadden will win it this year though, because of age.

Which is about as stupid as the way the voters vote to place teams in games, and not which teams are playing the best. But hey, I am not the one screwing up the system.

Wow, Danny, do you really need to be so harsh on Coach Jones and the Hawaiian fans in general? I grew up in the 50th State and found the people there to be among the nicest and most friendly you'll meet anywhere. They have waited an awful long time to finally have a team to root for, if they get a little rabid now I still don't think the characterization of them as "scumbags" is really called for.

If that's how it is, I'd call them fair-weather fans instead.

Since it appears that I am the ONLY Ohio State Univeristy Fan on the entire board...I'll give you my two cents (on us in another BCS Championship and other bowls)....

1. We got crushed last year...Florida was definately better...

2. We will not get crushed this year... LSU is good, but not nearly as good as past LSU Championship teams, as well as FLA from last year...but thats speculuation, until you look at the stats of FLA Def from last year and LSU's this year...heck, look at the offense as well...

3. Who will be under center for the Bayou Bengals??

4. OSU team this is much better than last years.....they are more of a traditional OSU power running team...Wells should have a field day against a very soft run d of LSU....look at the ARK game before you tell me they can stop the run....

5. All of this talk about LSU being in the game honestly should be looked at, why did VT get the shaft?? So they lost to the number one team early, and what was the #2 soon to be #1 later, and then rebounded to beat them....and they WON THIER CONFRENCE....which is more than you can say for UGA

6. Regular season early losses are easy to rebound from in the BCS if you play in a championship game, but losing the week before the game, and you still get rewarded????? Wow.....

7. Some fair skinned MN linebacker will destory some fairskinned LSU running back....

8. Dont knock Hawaii and the strength of schedule....Boise State trashed that arguement last year, and you can no longer use the weak vs. strong confrence arguement anymore - thats why you play the game.....

9. Personally, I wanted to see a WVU v. OSU championship game....

10. McFadden will win the heisman on sat....why?? NO SOPHMORE HAS EVER WON THE AWARD.....they (voters) would much rather give it McFadden for his "body of work" as opposed to one great year by a younger player - who will probaly win it next year - unless Pat White has something to say about it.... RUN DMC, strike a pose...
(See A. Peterson)

11. ANY TEAM THAT LOSES TO A NON D1-A TEAM SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED IN THE BCS FOR THE NEXT TEN YEARS, SHOULD LOSE 4 SCHOLARSHIPS, AND SHOULD BE ON PROBATION FROM BOWL GAMES FOR THE NEXT 2 YEARS - YOU DONT GO UNLESS YOU GO UNDEFEATED TO RECLAIM YOUR STAKE AS A "PREMIER" PROGRAM (BUT YOU STILL CANT GO TO THE BCS - HELLO MOTOR CITY BOWL....) - IF I WAS IN CHARGE THAT IS......

Apparently the other punishment is to have every head coach in the country use you to get a better contract, while the whole time not considering the move at all.

Not at all, Joe... they have always supported their teams, through bad times as well as good. With no pro sports teams, UH football and basketball has always been the biggest sports thing going in the Aloha State, and they have never had a team ranked this highly in either. So if they are going a little nuts now, I don't think it's fair to characterize them as "fair weather fans" or as "scumbags" either. Fair weather fans are those who only jump on a bandwagon, which is not the case in Hawai'i.

But everyone is entitiled to their opinion...

So what were they waiting for? That's my point. If you can't cheer when the team is small or losing...you're a fair weather fan.

With regards to chastising 1-A teams that lose to 1-AA teams...

Numerous 1-A teams have lost to 1-AA teams in the past few years. It certainly does not boost your program, but I'm not sure it's as damning as people want to believe it is.

Having seen teams like UNH and UMass play in person (and having coached players who play at Lafayette, Colgate, and Hofstra), I can tell you the gap between 1-A and 1-AA is there... but it's not outrageous.

There is a lot of talent that ends up in 1-AA because players do not play in big recruiting hotbeds or have struggled with academics/discipline issues in the past and get overlooked by 1-A programs. That certainly means the talent is there...

Semi-Finals? Yes, semi-finals...

This is what a 1-A playoff would become.

The D1AA (FCS) upset bug has bitten many once-proud programs in just the last 3 years alone. Michigan is not alone here, in fact off the top of my head Indiana, Mississippi State (2004), Stanford (2005), Colorado (2006), Rutgers (2005), and Arkansas (1992) all have lost to FCS teams.

I wouldn't really think that the boosters for those solid programs would be on-board with banning their team for 10 years, but yeah. Basically the D1AA upset can strike any team at any time in ANY CONFERENCE if they are unprepared. The upset is no more a sign that a mighty team is not so mighty than it is proof that talent is being overlooked by these "mighty" programs and are competing at a "lower" level.

I think the biggest misconception is that FCS, and DII and DIII (and MCLA D2) teams have "less talented players", that is simply not the case. They have the talent, just in smaller total numbers. Where Michigan will have 60 blue chip recruits, Appalachian State will have 10. It all comes down to scholarships and money in terms of depth and what not. Michigan is not "more talented" they have more talent. In the end though, they should not lose....
