UVSC vs Westminster and Montana

I heard UVSC beat the Griffens 10-5. and beat defending champs Montana 9-4.
No surprise, UVSC has never lost to Montana, and UVSC and Westminster should split wins year in year out, and it was UVSC's turn.
Anyway, Congrats to UVSC for a good showing this fall.

UVSC is a great team, but I wouldn't read too much into fall ball. In our game we were missing 5 starters and their head coach had 4 goals or something... not a very accurate indicator of the spring. IMO they have a great team defense, weak goaltending (at least the kid we saw), and a decent offense. Their kids can move the ball, but there wasn't anybody I saw that was breaking down players one on one. Again, a little tough to judge since Perkins played the whole game and took the majority of their shots. I do expect them to tear up Div 2 this year though... the Wolverines and Griffins are by far leading the pack (from everything I know) and I would be shocked to see anybody else win the title this year.

I keep hearing not to look so much into fall ball, but here are the reasons i do.

1. Teams want to win (fall or spring).
2. Teams that get beat are usually the ones to say fall ball doesn't matter.
3. It seems to be good indicator of what will come for teams
4. Competition is the reason teams play- they practice, pay money, tons of time and for what, to play games that have no reward (cause it was played in the fall.)


Excuses i love.
1. We were missing players- every team is missing key players!
2. Its fall. Its still a game with a score at the end of it!
3. Ref trouble. I do admit refs can be a problem, but teams come to play their opponent and sometimes the refs too.

Oh ya, i heard about Coach Perkins too. I also heard he has two years of eligibility and might do the whole player coach thing that seems to be so popular now-a-days. Just a rumor..He is like 30 or something! oh well, if you can play-why not play.. this sport is addicting-dont blame him

no excuses, but fall ball is typically a horrible indicator. Last year the "Griz" lost to Central Washington in fall ball, even though we had beat them something like 25-3 during the regular season. Every team uses the fall for different reasons, but I'm one who doesn't look at the scoreboard at all (especially when a team uses only half its roster). The Wolverines seemed to show up at our game this fall with a chip on their shoulder, which I understand with the way their season ended last year, but I'm sure the things they focused on for the game were way different than us. This fall ball argument could go on forever though...

I also hear the St. John's/St. Thomas/Dayton argument, but don't think it carries much weight. The RMLC has at least half of the top 10 teams in Div 2 and Westminster and UVSC seem to be leading that pack... they have to be the favorites.

i'm with 'shocker' - a win is a win. it looks like uvsc won all of their games up there, very impressive given the teams attending. Let's give them some respect for now. looks to me like they've earned it.
