Fall Ball Games?

I actually have no idea. The brackets got messed up really early, but I do know that Illinois State and UW Madison were undefeated going into Sunday.

I talked to a few of the NIU guys and they don't really know either. I was a bit disappointed at the lack of organization this year compared to those of the past, so it is entirely possible there was no real winner. I don't know who won, but I can definitely tell you who lost.

But anytime 14 collegiate programs show up to one place its gonna be a good day.

I don't have the final results but I believe that Madison was to play Purdue in the finals, and Michigan Tech was playing Illinois State in the 3rd Place game.

I can't speak to the rest of the field, however. Lack of organization or not Northern Illinois did do a pretty good job of getting 14 teams to play at least 3 games each. The referees were good, the fields in pretty good shape, and all games stayed on schedule. At least this was Marquette's experience. And of course the beautiful weather was nice too.

On a personal note thanks to Northern Michigan, Iowa, and Augustana for three great games.

I want to thank Matt Gardiner and the SLU team for battling the I-44 traffic and coming down for the game Friday night. The field was soft from the rains, but the play did not become sloppy, a credit to both teams. UM-Rolla scored early and SLU responded. The score was tied 5-5 at half. SLU built a 10-7 lead with 5 minutes left in the game. Rolla tied it 10-10, before SLU scored the winner on a fast break in the final minute. A very competitive game.

I was honored to be acknowledged by the master - Matt, known for his judious use of the the "stick check" request over the years - for my novel request during the game.

I know it's late, but are there any tournaments (NIU?) that an alumni team can enter? Maybe for next year?
