Predictions

Postby essn1064 on Wed Oct 10, 2007 12:26 am

I know we have the pre-season polls, but I did not know many of the teams when I voted...therefore I randomly voted

Lets start the fun

What teams have new talent? Which team will be most improved?

Who will lead the pack in Div 1A and Div 1B? What games are we looking forward too?

And is everyone afraid of Hotty Toddy?

All I can add about Iowa right now is Kevin Tidgewell is no longer the coach as he is finishing up his PhD and will be gone in December. He is actually already away from campus finishing up his thesis.

I heard rumors that a former Oregon player is coaching now, but this has not been confirmed by anyone yet.

There were also rumors that Matt Striebel might help out a little here or there as he has been at Iowa for the Writer's Workshop program for the past two years and they finally convinced him to come out to help out. Who knows how much though.

Aside from that, this is the least bit I have ever known about Iowa since before my "glory days".

For real? Your in college?

Wikipedia wrote:Hot toddy is a name given to a mixed drink that is served hot. Although it originated in Scotland, there are many variations; the essential elements are as follows:

* a spirit base such as brandy, rum or whisky.
* hot liquid — hot tea, coffee, cocoa, water, etc.
* a sweetener, such as honey, sugar or syrup.

It is great for curing a cold, sore throat, or late night studying with coke or coffee and you need to go to sleep.

True Story - Prof at my undergrad gave me this recipe when I got pretty sick.... heat water in a pan over a stove. Mix in equal parts of Jack. Couple spoonfulls of local honey. Mix well. Now if you want to get rid of the alcohol (and honestly who would) you can heat to a boil. Make sure that you get it nice and hot and then sip on it. The honey will help soothe your throat and the Jack will help you sleep.

Apparently Arkansas just beat NCAA DIII Hendrix in a scrimmage, so take that for what its worth.

Wasnt a whole lot of description of either team from that article, however I knew a local kid from here that wanted to get into lacrosse, no prior experience, talked to the head coach from hendrix and was told he could walk on and that hendrix probably would not have enough guys come out to cut any. So take that for whats its worth I guess, but from my impression the numbers were going to be a little short. I am curious how Hendrix looks

The article doesn't say this, but earlier in the day, Harding University beat University of Arkansas 6-4.

Of the three games that day, Hendrix vs. Harding was definitely the best. I didn't see alot of the Arkansas v. Harding game, but from what I did see it looked like Arkansas was the more athletic team on the whole, but Harding had the better skills and was able to finish when it counted.

Harding has some very good players on their team, and should be the team to beat in the GRLC this year. I'm not sure what their roster looks like, but I know they have one freshman from Ravenwood in Tennessee who can ball.

Arkansas has a lot of speed on their team, but seems to have a team comprised primarily of players who have never played lacrosse before.

FWIW... A friendly reminder to not put too much stock in Fall Ball and Fall Ball results. I would definitely not look too closely at Fall Ball scores. Different teams approach the games in a different manner. Some teams are 100% in it to win it, and other teams are in it to run the new guys as much as possible and see what they have got coming in. Fall ball will give you a good idea of how athletic teams are, how many stand-out players a team may have, or how the overall stick skills of a team are. Fall Ball does not always give a good indication of overall numbers and it does not give a good idea of how well a team will put all its pieces together come Spring.
