When ASU, Cincy and/or Hawaii play a decent opponent...then they talk.

Yeah, you're both right. I am going to have to adopt the southern mentality that the SEC is sooooooo tough and weak leagues like the Pac-10 deserve no respect. Since ASU plays in a "weak sister" conference, let's forget wins and losses and just vote all the SEC teams to the top fifteen and fill in the rest of the poll with other teams afterward.

Heck, let's just award the SEC champ the title now and cancel the rest of the season. If games are really played out an ASU, a Cincy, Missouri or a Hawaii might actually become this year's Boise State. Oklahoma proved once and for all last year what a huge mistake it was to award a team like BSU a BSC bowl game, which they clearly didn't deserve because they "didn't beat anybody" in amassing a winless record in in '06.

Ah, kind of like what happens with USC every year?

It's still early in the season...if any team in a major conference manages to go undefeated at the end of the regular season...then they should be playing in the national championship game.

Hawaii - Wins and losses means jack when you're playing against Idaho Institute of Technology (Moscow Campus) and running the score up on them. When the hardest game of your season is Washington...you need to make a real schedule.

Cincinnati - They've beaten Oregon State and Rutgers...congrats...here's a cookie. They've never been a good team..but yeah...it seems like they've already tripled their average yearly wins. But they still have to play West Virginia, South Florida and (still unbeaten Connecticut)...so we'll see till then.

Arizona State - With a convincing win over perennial powerhouses such as San Jose State, San Diego State and Washington State....I am honestly surprised that we haven't seen them consider a possible move to the NFL. Once again, Arizona State has never been great...they still have left to play Oregon, USC and Cal.

We're what, 6 games into the season and teams are still making their way through the cupcake forest. No one said that the SEC is the greatest thing ever to touch college football...but at what point can you honestly say that playing a hard schedule week in and week out has no relevance to the rankings?

I believe it was our culinary school?

Brennan had 369 yards that game but also threw 5 interceptions and wasn't overly impressive.

I think Idaho jumped into the top 150 after that game?

Who said it had NO relevance? If strength of schedule is the most important thing, than why aren't my Huskies the unanimous #1 team in both polls? Washington has the toughest strength of schedule in the country -- in every reputable ranking I have seen.

What I am saying is that wins and losses are MORE important at this or any other point in the schedule when we're at least halfway through the season. Florida is a fine team, all sarcasm aside. But the Gators are only 4-2, and shouldn't be rated ahead of undefeated teams just because they are from the mighty SEC. If, at the end of the regular season, the Gators finish with only two losses and the undefeated teams you are belittling are no longer undefeated, than UF should be ranked ahead of them. But this week? My vote would have them certainly behind ASU, at least.

If you accept Sonny's earlier point that we are seeing parity like never before in college football (and I do!), than why not rank teams based on what they are actually doing on the field, rather than on reputation and strength of schedule? You can't have it both ways...

You can base it off of wins/losses AND strength of schedule. Reputation means nothing in regards to wins/losses if you also strength of schedule (See: South Florida).

Ill play along, so how do you rank all of the undefeated teams in regards to each other if wins/losses is the most important factor? Then why isn't UCONN ranked #1? Shouldn't there be a 7 team tie for #1 (or however many undefeated teams are out there)?

I believe (correct me if I am wrong) the rankings are in regards to each other and not "in general". What I am saying is "This team ranked at N is better than team ranked at N+1". Because Florida taking both losses down to the final seconds (one to LSU)....holds more water for their ability than beating up on teams that won't finish with a record over .500. Maybe the teams that complain about not being ranked as high...should play better teams throughout the season...and not just when they have to play The-Team-That-Lost-To-Stanford-at-Home or yearly Holiday Bowl contenders, Cal.

Because the week before they lost to an unranked (at the time) opponent at home and dropped to what? like 10th?

Same thing with USC, how can you lose to an unranked opponent at home and still be in the top 10?

I thought there was supposed to be parity in college football, but I guess it's a popularity contest these days, and when you have ESPN covering stories about your third string linemen and their trials to get to THE USC....

Yeah USC still being number 7 is crap. To be at 7 they had to have been voted higher than 7 by some people because I am sure there were some people that voted them lower than 7 to make that balance out. Whoever voted them higher than 7 should have their vote taken away.
