Looking at FSU's schedule, it looks like they finally beefed it up for once. Will it pan out, or will they miss nationals for the second year in a row?

This question does not take into consideration at all the amount of talent FSU brought in this off-season. This year should be their best team (probably better) then the 05' final four team

As a Seminoles fan, I am extremely excited for the upcoming season and wish them the best of luck...except on Oct. 14 and 26.

One thing that jumps out from looking at the schedule is that the Seminoles only leave their own campus twice during the entire season -- once for an OOC trip up north, and once to South Carolina for two conference games. I'm NOT saying there is anything wrong with this, please don't get me wrong. But I do find it to be interesting.

Luckily the advantages of living in a warm weather state means lots of northern teams are willing to travel down to play a team like FSU at their place.

Not to be a total Darrell about it but they didn't make it to Texas last year...UGA and Florida are currently the teams to beat.

FSU certainly lucked out with their home-heavy schedule but I think it was just timing more than anything else. I can't find any of the schedules from the last few years but in looking at this year's schedule it is clear that many of their home games are just part of a normal rotation with teams they play every year, i.e. UF and the other SELC teams. FSU is also hosting the Southern Shootout for the first time, an event that had been played in Atlanta over the past few years, giving them three more home games. Of course, the real lucky ones are the lacrosse fans of Tallahassee.

Their travel schedule is by no means easy with trips to South Carolina, Maryland, New York, and Georgia on the schedule.

It also may be that the scheduling gods are just trying to compensate FSU for only giving us 5 home football games this year.

Let's not go all Easterbrook, here, Stryker. There is no "luck" involved with scheduling at the MCLA level. Not that I care one way or the other about when and where they are playing games, but if FSU wanted 0 away games outside of their SELC matrix, they certainly could do it.

It goes without saying that this is the type of schedule a team needs to be playing to have a shot at consistent top 10 rankings. It is the most ambitious schedule FSU has ever played. Whether or not the 'Noles finish above or below .500 is a moot point. A team will only be successful by playing the top teams throughout their schedule year in and year out. Add to these games the thrill of playing at the various varsity venues (Homewood? are you kidding?) and you have the potential for greatness. 13 home games doesnt suck either.

Its good that FSU is playing all those games in Tallahassee. They have some of the best facilities and best weather in the nation. Their schedule looks like GT's has for the past 5 years.

Also if you notice FSU scheduled their road trip on the wrong dates. Their spring break is at the beginning of the month not the end. So the Homewood thing is probably out. Don't get to amped.

I know FSU likes to travel because it is the best thing they can do for recruiting. In years past it seems like every time we went somewhere we would have 40 emails from kids in that area wanting to come out for the team.

As for the team this year. I would expect to see a much more balanced team than in the past. I believe that the team has increased its depth this year. I also believe that they needed last year as a wake up call. They need to know that getting into the championship isn't automatic. Since FSU has sparked up the past 5 years the SELC conference has stopped declining. I don't think teams show up drunk for games anymore and schools like VT that have awesome players just hanging out on campus are actually playing. Look for some exciting games on Harkins Field this year.

CORRECTION

FSU will do the original trip they planned despite it not being on there spring break. I believe this is the right call. This trip will be a big opportunity for the future of the team. I believe VT and the rest of the league will stand to gain from this trip also.

they are not the only ones to do this sort of trip to spread the news of MCLA ball.
GT has played at JHU twice. Once on a weekday back in 2000 versus Michigan and then right after the JHU-Princeton game in 2004. Obviously after the JHU-Princeton game was great for the guys. A lot of people stayed behind to see what UT and GT were doing and what it was all about. That was... until a HUGE thunderstorm rolled in (the one that collapsed the boat in the harbour killing a few people). Unfortnuate.

GT then played Sonoma last year at Georgetown with a good size crowd on Easter weekend prior to the G-town/Fairfield game and of all things (on Easter weekend) it SNOWS! In fact to ensure we got started on time Dave Urick was with us on the turf with parents and players shoveling the turf field. Got a snap shot of that one to show the support DI has for the MCLA .

So in synopisis- as long as we are not involved the weather and opportunity should be great!!

Do they know if they are playing before or after? As a coach I am torn which is better. Before- you get a smaller crowd typically but people arriving early get to see you and then the players get to enjoy a great day of lacrosse as fans. After a DI game- people will see you, stick around, watch... but your guys only get to watch a half of lacrosse and then have to get ready and wait for the DI teams to leave the turf which can be slow especially if the game is being televised- the crew will slow you down as they tear down.
