Metropolitan State College of Denver (Metro State) was voted into the league on Saturday. We will be members of the RMLC East Division in Division II (formerly Division B). I'd like to personally thank the members of the RMLC for working with us to gain entrance to the league. We will be playing our home games at Dick's Sporting Goods park for the 2008 season and look forward to our first year as members of the RMLC.

Unofficially, the conference also voted for a 4-team playoff system in Divison II as opposed to the 6 team format of last season. The top two teams from the East and West divisions will meet at Westminster College in SLC for the playoffs on the weekend of May 2nd and 3rd.

For those of you that do not know, the MCLA decided to change the names of the divisions form A/B to I/II. This is because of the connotation associated with the B division as a 'developmental' league. The MCLA wants to view the two divisions as large schools vs. small schools. The two divisions will be determined by school enrollment size (similar to NCAA) and that number will be decided upon in December.

I unfortunately had to leave prior to the start of the combine. I hope it went well... definitely a great idea.

So from what I can gather, the only thing that happened was Metro got moted in, and nobody showed up to the recruiting combine?

Given this fact, what was the rationale for allowing Utah State -- a team that plays DI football and has an undergrad enrollment of almost 20,000 -- to move down to DII? Won't they surely be forced back up to DI in '09 anyway?

I do not think it was a case of "allowing", but instead "forcing".

Utah State is one of the 3 (I believe) D-I teams playing a D-II schedule in the RMLC this year. They won't be eligible for playoffs.
