dtrain - I didn't realize that where I went to school and the performance of the athletic teams reflects directly to what I know. If that was the case -- your institution might put you near the bottom. And your points all have merit because you watch commercials between superman cartoons. Your famed job as an institution volunteer lacrosse coach gives you the platform to speak about the commercial business.

As for the market -- yea toyota only shows commercials to those who already own toyotas -- that gets market share way up.

I also didn't realize that the MCLA, with all it's money spilling out over the top of the coffee can, was in a position to make short films to entertain the 250 people in the seats of 1 game. maybe some of that time and money should have been spent on getting kids from near by institutions to sit in the seats. Playing on a screen 50 feet across I still had to ask the guy next to me what that was. ants on a field shot from the space shuttle?

the point is not whether the videos stink or not -- it's that the MCLA should be spending time and money to brand itself to people that don't know what it is rather than making "short films". I'd rather have the MCLA become a household name first. If everyone didn't think they were commercials they wouldn't be calling them commercials.

"at least we have a commercial" - is not a reason to call it good. There is nothing to compare these videos to -- so people assume they are good. I'm not alone here -- I'm just one of the few willing to speak up. There is no reason that the videos couldn't have been made to serve the purpose in the stadium and on down the road. Now there are 2 videos that get thrown into the pile with the videos of drunk institution co-eds falling down on YouTube. Great - mission accomplished. That's the image the MCLA needs.

Show these videos to your grandmother and see if she knows what they are about. "Institutions" means nothing to 16 year old. And what is the first line? "Lacrosse is a game that is CROW ?" The logo at the end means nothing to anyone. No one knows what the MCLA logo looks like let alone stands for. Put Sonny's black and gold logo and the MCLA logo side by side - which is more recognizable as lacrosse? The guy with the stick or the one with 400 letters which you need bifocals to read. I saw the maroon and orange CollegeLAX shirts being worn around Pizza Hut Park -- I want one. They were sharp. Compare those to the MCLA tournament shirt. Another opportunity lost. The MCLA needs to establish itself first -- entertain second.

The president of the league stated himself that the message is unclear. The creator of the videos stepped in to try to validate them by saying the were shot in HD and an NFL guy was used. I've heard that voice before -- in 6th grade, it told me where babies come from. Shot in HD to show on YouTube -- brilliant. People don't know what HD is if it slapped them in the head.

As much as you don't like the Warrior ads -- you know immediately what the product is. And if they want to make a sunset commercial -- they can -- because they have already branded themselves.

As for my contribution -- little do you know. You should order a shirt yourself and support the site that gives you the opportunity to spout off. if you want to reimburse me for $23 -- send it along.

Dude quit overanalyzing the heck out of it. Every professional sporting event that I have ever been in attendance for, has had some commercial at some point occur on the jumbotron. And it didn't have the entire Wikipedia definition for what a "slapshot" is, or who the "Boston Bruins" are.

So the league does 99 out of 100 things with excellence, but they somehow....decided to make the grave mistake of making a quick video clip for the scoreboard so that the people would have something to look at while there's a timeout?!? Let's stage a coup d'état! Ok then, fine...I vote that teams no longer put their mascot on the middle of the field for sporting events.

Since this has become a forum to teach the ignorant about marketing, I will gladly oblige. Funny though, I thought class was done a few days ago...

Referencing where you went to school and them coming up short, was used under the platform of sarcasm.

You can't see a JUMBOTRON from 50 feet away??? You can't see a JUMBOTRON from 15 yards or so??? Who are you, Mr. Magoo? The problem friend is not the "commercials," it's the fact that you need to get to an optometrist stat! OOoohh the screen is 50 feet across (how you liking this sarcasm thing so far?).

You really can't seem to grasp what the hell is going on with these ADVERTISEMENTS can you? And before I forget, my avatar is Bruce Wayne you idiot! How dare you imply that I watch Superman cartoons! (I'm sorry, I just got done talking about sarcasm one line above....I hope you are a quick learner). Please, please tell me you don't have children. The most frustrating thing to everyone that you are attempting to "educate" on these boards is that you keep offering up criticism, (which is fine; and is obviously something I do quite often) but you aren't suggesting a better way to do things. Write a treatment for god's sake and write how to better do it.

You state in your own posts how the MCLA doesn't have that much money to produce such "commercials," but then keep comparing them to companies like TOYOTA!...Toyota owns half the damn world!

Why the hell would I show these videos to my grandmother...she isn't in the market to buy a Toyota. Step back into reality for a second, the contributions I have made to this game are not nearly as great as some of the people who have blessed me and grown the sport; but are far, far greater than you my friend...my most recent coaching venture was the latest on the tour, so I can yell from the top the soapbox everyone once in a while.

And by the way, YOU OWE ME MONEY! Cause my professional time, and expertise in the field of bidness, is worth a hell of a lot more than 23 dollars.


Just stop with this tomfoolery. It's beyond moronic on both ends now.....thank you for all those who put their time and effort into last week. And thanks to those who used their own time and resources to start us on our path towards marketing using HD video in the future.

Very valid point. God forbid the videos were shot and produced by a Florida grad. Leonard's losers: Ohio St.!

Rather than commercials, think of them as vignettes. Not every commercial can be as easy as "Head On... Apply Directly to the Forehead!" Some things are more cerebral and as someone who is actually in sports television, I have shown these to several of my colleagues and they are very impressed by them.

Not to turn this into an "Us against Them" thing, but I get real tired of reading and re-reading the same arguments...Maybe folks are just mad that the MCLA is not content to live with the status quo...not trying to improve as an organization and more importantly, improve the level of play as an outlet for those not playing NCAA Varsity Lacrosse.

I am damn proud of this league and how far it has come under its own power. Those "shorts" or whatever one would like to call them, freakin' rocked. They were extremely well done. My only complaint is that they were too short!
