9th Annual Gem State Lacrosse Tournament

9th Annual Gem State Lacrosse Tournament

Postby Shawn Carman on Tue Sep 11, 2007 5:41 pm

Players, Coaches and Fans,

Everyone has been asking me if Boise State is going to be hosting their Annual Tournament, the answer is Yes!

The dates are scheduled to be Saturday, Ocotber 20th and Sunday, October 21st. I have been trying to wait as long as possible before announcing it until I could get a GUARANTEED Field but that still has not happened. So instead of waiting any longer I though that I would announce it.

The reason it has taken so long is because we were turned down the use of out football stadium since all of the new renovations that are being done since the Fiesta Bowl Earnings, and our second field location fell through (someone apparently reserved it a few days before I apprached them).

So I have been playing phone tag and being avoided by the Boise Parks and Recreation Department for sometime now. Things are starting to look as though they are about to fall into place, so I thought I would get the dates out there for everone.

Format

Postby Shawn Carman on Tue Sep 11, 2007 9:53 pm

The format of this years tournament is a round Round Robin style Tournament with two pools. Pool A and Pool B, each pool is going to be split into group of teams that more or less would not meet during the season, with a few exceptions. After it is all said and done the team with the winninest record in each pool will advance to the Championship Game.

Each team will get to play at least 3 games and each game will be four 15min running quarters with a 10 min half time with 20min between each game.

On site there will be a medical staff for any aches and pains, including two refs per field.

This years registration is the same as last years, which is $400 per team. We have a host hotel here in Boise that is offering reduced rates so if you are interested in lodging get a hold of me and we can make arrangements.

Looks like things are coming together Sean, great job. If you could send me the hotel info I'd appreciate it.

I'd also like to say that WSU has put a solid fall schedule together so hats off to the Cougs for bringing lax back to Pullman.

Nevada, who was referred to as Reno, will not be travelling to the Gem State tourney this year either. Best of Luck to everyone up there though.

Shawn,

Can you please clear some things up. You have Montana and U of M playing at the same time. I'm assuming Montana is actually Montana State and U of M is Montana (this is pretty much like calling Idaho- Boise State and Boise State- Idaho). Also Utah is listed in the schedule and Utah State in the pools. I'm assuming Utah is Utah State?

Kevin is right as far as the Montana situation goes, also Utah is Utah State.

I was just using short hand when writing the schedule so to clear up some things -

BSU - Boise State
Idaho - University of Idaho
Albertson - Albertson College
Western - Western Oregon
Montana - Montana State
U of M - University of Montana
Utah - Utah State
UVSC - Utah Valley State College

I'd humbly suggest you try these abbreviations, Shawn:

Utah State = USU
Montana State = MSU
Albertson = ACI

I'm guessing that MSU hates being referred to as "Montana", ditto for Utah State being called "Utah".

Lord knows the Cougs from Wazzou wouldn't tolerate anybody referring to them as "Washington". Come to think of it, we Huskies would probably like it even less. As someone from Chapel Hill once famously spoke, "If you're not smart enough to get into university, don't worry -- you can always go to State".

Disclaimer: I'm just quoting an old joke, so please send all hate mail to the Tar Heels, you "Statees", not to me. But I can ask a smart Husky to help you to spell the hard words, if you want.

Looks like a cold and rainy weekend down in the Boise area. Are we playing on grass fields?

Should be a fun weekend
