multiple concussions and you

Postby CyLaxKeeper00 on Fri Apr 20, 2007 12:20 pm

It has been just about 10 years since I suffered my first concussion. Since then I have notice a decrease in short term memory. Also, following a couple other concussion there seemed to be a decrease in academic ability and other mental health issues.

Anyone

We switched to Riddell helmets this year and went the whole season without a concussion, which is a substantial improvement over previous years with different equipment.

I think the newer Riddells dont look too bad.

I think it is a unique look.

The CPX, in my opinion, looks the best though.

I suffered a pretty sever concussion about 8 years ago, completely unrelated to sports, from my own stupidity. I'm not sure how good it was beforehand, but I have a bad short-term memory nowadays.

I hold my h.s record for them-4 in a four year career. Had 2 at A&M (doesn't help the cause of an Aggie) and 2 playing club ball. I never noticed any short term memory loss but now that I think of it I have had some problems with it-I thought I was getting old. The biggest thing that I have noticed are the headaches upon sudden pressure changes-weather, airplanes, etc. I should probably get that checked out.

I could almost diagnose myself-I could tell the severity of the injury based on how nauseous I was that night or when Mom, roommate or wifey had to wake me up in the middle of the night and check to see that I still knew my name-ahh the memories (no pun intended).

Yeah I had a very severe concussion when I was in 8th grade in a skiing accident, had to be rushed to the hospital and all and almost dont remember the whole trip to CO. Since then I have had several other concussions from high school football (its probably bad that I dont remeber how many) and i have "rung my bell" countless times. I still play lacrosse but have learned to keep my head out of hits but i do encounter lots of problems such as attention problems and some short-term memory stuff....its a bitch

Study suggests brain damage may have affected Benoit

ATLANTA -- Pro wrestler Chris Benoit suffered brain damage from his years in the ring that could help explain why he killed his wife, son and himself, a doctor who studied Benoit's brain said Wednesday.

The analysis by doctors affiliated with the Sports Legacy Institute suggests repeated concussions could have contributed to the killings at Benoit's suburban Atlanta home.

My most severe concussion came when my bike slipped on some gravel and I slammed my face in to a curb (no helmet either). I would blink, focus, then quickly fade to black like I was blind. It was nuts. That was in the 5th grade and about 15 years ago. Since then, I've been lucky. I'm having short term memory loss as well, but I attribute that to being out of school and not having to call upon it as much--like I did while in school. No headaches or anything like that either.

As far as how ugly protective hlemts are getting, I always used to say that it's better to look retarded for a short time than be retarded for the rest of your life. Not really PC, but sometimes it is a good way to look at it.

Personally, I like how the NFL is cracking down on players who have had multiple concussions. I don't know if they do it in college football, but they should.

Riddell Helmets

Postby Troy Hood on Wed Sep 05, 2007 4:44 pm

Gentlemen:

Take a look at the new Riddell when it becomes available to you. The new cage is a big improvement and the weight has been reduced significantly.

We'll be using both the Triumph and the Riddell this season. The players have been given a choice.
