We are a country established by immigrants, what do you all think about this article?

Serving in the US military should place you on the fast track to US citizenship....I'm not sure what to think about immediate family members at this time. Cases like this are another example that large issues such as immigration are not so cut and dry. We've let the immigration laws and enforcement get out of hand and out dated. Now, after years of neglect we are all paying the price.

America was indeed founded by immigrants. As there were no laws to determine legal or illegal...but that's a whole other issue with the Native Americans.
But today we do have laws in this country for immigration. If someone breaks that law...they should pay the price. No need to give a mouse a cookie...esp when it is a strain on resources. Costing the gov't $26 billion, and only paying $16 billion in taxes (net -$10 billion). [in 2004, source = http://www.cis.org/articles/2004/fiscalexec.html]
Immigration = not always a bad thing
(anything) Illegal = ALWAYS a bad thing

Actually, America was a country that was seized by immigrants. Before any of these immigrants arrived, there was a long standing habitation by various Native American tribes.

There was no "America" or nation of unified people. It was a bunch of different tribes doing their own thing, occasionally interacting for some trading, peace-piping and lacrosse...or war. Today's states do a lot of things on their own...but there is a recognized unified body/gov't that is in control.
The immigrants didn't steal a country from anyone...they stole the land. Land that wasn't given to them and/or already claimed by the Native Americans....like when Minuit bought Manhattan for $24 (or $72 depending on the conversion rates). There wasn't already a nation in place that we took the reigns of.

I beg to differ, there are so many stupid Laws that make things illegal that shouldn't be.
Example:
in Minneapolis Minnesota it is "Illegal" to drive a red car down Lake Street.
as a driver of a red car I find it hard to navigate Minneapolis without being able to use Lake street.

You can find your states stupid laws here. Sorry it's off subject but as some that breaks the law from time to time (speeding for one) I would have to saw not "all" laws are appropriate.
But then again a wise man once told me "it's only against the law if you get caught."
