I just reread my post and it came off wrong. I apologize to all for not having the correct information. Thank you for the corrections. I am not involved in either NDSU or MSUM's programs and have no say in anything they do. I am merely and alum who likes to keep tabs on something that I poured my heart and soul into for several years.
Let me see if I can rephrase. Allow me to propose an idea that involves two levels of competition;
The upper tier has varying sized schools, lots of talent, resources to travel the country and compete against other top teams.
The lower tier, would be teams that are rebuilding, unwilling or unable to travel extensively, struggle to find players, etc.
Benefits to both, competition in your back yard, closer games(score and distance), less dissapointment.
NDSU's very first game was against Duluth. We lost 19-1. Our lone goal was a pass that bounced off someones head and found it's way into the net. The last 10 mintues or so of the game, was Duluth giving us a passing clinic. We ran around in circles, and had very few oppurtunities to even try and run a settled offense. NDSU gained very little if anything. Yes, it was our first game, and no I did not expect to look like a championship team. I would have preferred though to play a team that better matched our abilites.
I mean no disrespect and invite criticism. Everyone on here has worked long, hard hours to elevate their team and deserves their place and opinion.

Mike,
Thanks for the clarification.
But I respectfully disagree.
First, there can be benefit to losing such a game as you mention. We've been on the losing side of those games - thus I speak with experience.
UMD team growth necessitated beatings like the one you mentioned - we just received them at the hands of teams like CSU/Michigan/UCSB - to name a few. But from those games, we learned about the level we wanted to play lacrosse.
Second, You would be creating a "developmental league". That is what the WCLL has done. And Again, I don't see how that helps teams. My own personal opinon is that we're doing it the right way - by seperating teams by size (which is in our bylaw), allowing teams to play up if they desire, but demanding of all teams the highest standard of organization and professionalism. I've written about this ad naseum.
IN short, if your perspective is the majority one - which I don't think it is in the UMLL, then change will happen. But - again with respect - I don't think it is the majority view.

At SJU we are still using things that was learned during the 20+ route that Mighigan had on us. People saw what good lacrosse was all about for the first time, and it was right around the turning point for SJU.

Very well stated. my first meaning full game was against UMD. We ended up losing that game if i recall something like 21-2. The consensus in the huddle was that what we had just went through is the brand of lacrosse we would like to achieve someday. As the years progressed i believe we have taken steps toward achieving that goal but yet to achieve it.
As for the league seperation i doubt if i speak for everyone but...
i can not see making the B division a quote unquote developmental league.
I believe the UMLL B division is just as competitive against each other as the
A teams our. If we went to the plan you suggest mike what if/ point finishes last we (Moorhead) stay in B and have to travel to point to play.
I dont think these senarios/situations would cause less hassle/travel expenses.
We have made agreements where we travel one year and the other teams vice versa. Lacrosse is growing rapidly and there are multiple teams to play that dont require a whole lot of travel expense. Its out there you just have to hammer out the details and work at it.
just my thoughts

Dear Chris,
No.
You bias against the letter B has no place in modern society.

YAR Matey!
I've noticed a direct relationship to the amount of minutes I spend on the bench, and the amount of games that we win.
A benching would be a great coaching move in my opinion.

In large part due to the presentation and support of Divsion 2 Rep Jon Carlson at the Summer MCLA meeting, the MCLA has changed it's nomenclature.
Division A is now Division 1
Division B is now Division 2
The UMLL Voted in favor of this change
