Some folks are suggesting that Syracuse could be a good fit for Big 10.

The names I always see are Pittsburgh, Syracuse, Rutgers and the pipe dream, Notre Dame.

Rutgers is digging the Big East as late IMHO, 'Cuse football is as ugly as their unis.

Pitt, West Virginia or Syracuse fit the demo of the Big Ten.

As for Syracuse football, they would stack up well versus perrenial Big Ten powerhouses Indiana, Illinois, Purdue, Iowa, Minnesota and Northwestern.

Notre Dame has no incentive to enter into a football conference due to their exclusive TV deal with NBC and not having to share money made from bowl games. That is when they make a bowl game.

I'm with Pinball... none of the above. The only one I could possibly see joining would be WVU, or maybe Ohio. But, I think they should leave well enough alone, 11 is enough. Not to mention they'd have to find a way to add a "12" into the BigTen logo. The "11" in it now is pretty sweet.

Cuse makes sense, NY market and they already tried to get out of the Big East once before with the ACC.

You have to think that it would be a team in the Midwest. I think Pitt, Syracuse, WVU, and some of the others are too far East. I think Mizzou or Iowa St. make sense. Mizzou might be a little far South. If you take either school out of the Big 12 then you need to find a replacement for them. I also think Notre Dame is an option starting in 2012. The push would come from basketball, but football would follow. I think the dark horse is one of the North Dakota schools.

Someone once told me that Carleton dreamed of becoming a Big 10 school, and that is not without precedent. The University of Chicago was in the Big 10.

I think in the end it is Mizzou with the ties to Iowa and Illinois. I can see a rivalry building with Minnesota and Wisconsin. The travel would also not be increased greatly. That also adds the KC and St. Louis markets. Your Big 10 West is Minnesota, Wisconsin, Northwestern, Iowa, Illinois, and Mizzou. In the East you have Michigan, MSU, OSU, Penn St., Indiana, and Purdue.

It won't be Pitt or WVU or any of the MAC schools. Those two schools don't add any geographic footprint to the Big 10 or any "real" TV markets.

IF ND continues to stonewall (and they will as long as NBC will continue to pay them the big bucks for their exclusive TV contract), Syracuse & Rutgers would be likely choices.

Have you heard of a team called Penn State? Pitt is west of them, SU is north of them and WVU is south of them.
