Quint and Mikey on ESPN First Take

Postby James Foote on Fri Jul 06, 2007 12:06 pm

Not sure if anyone saw, but Quint Kessenich and Mikey Powell were on ESPN's First Take (formerly Cold Pizza) this morning talking about the All-Star game. It was at the end of the show and they only had about 60 seconds of time, but they did get the chance to show the MLL All-Star Game jerseys... Mikey's was green urban camo. They mentioned that the jerseys were going to 'benefit' service men and women. Not sure the specifics, but I'd like to find out more.

Major League Lacrosse (MLL), the premier professional outdoor lacrosse league, will host the 2007 Major League Lacrosse All Star game July 8 at Harvard Stadium in Boston. In conjunction with the game Mikey Powell, of the Boston Cannons, will appear on a pair of ESPN shows on Friday, July 6 and also participate in an online chat at 1:45.
Powell will be on First Take at 12:45 pm and will also appear on the Hot List later in the afternoon. The Major League Lacrosse All Star Game can be seen live on ESPN2 at 12:30 pm.
Tickets are on sale NOW and are available by phone at 888-847-9700 and online at www.majorleaguelacrosse.com. Tickets are affordably priced at $25 and $20 with group discounts available. Anyone with a military ID will have access to discounted tickets for the game.
First Take is a morning talk show which began on May 7, 2007. It is shown on ESPN2 and different segments of the show include 1st and 10, Couch Potato, Cover Two, Full Court Press, MLB Doubleheader, Morning Headlines, Quick Takes, SportsCenter Update, SportsNation Question of the Day, and The Top Story. Powell will appear approximately at 12:40 (ET).
Powell will also be appearing on the Hot List which airs on ESPNews. The host (Josh Elliot or Steven Bunin) goes over the top stories of the day with Michael Kim anchoring the updates. It runs every thirty minutes from Monday to Friday between 3-6 p.m.
Powell believes the appearances on ESPN will have a domino affect for the sport. “Just to be someone that’s going to help spread the game at a nationally recognized level is exciting for me. I’m excited for the opportunity. I think that this is just the beginning. Eventually, once we start doing a few of these, it’s going to become natural to see lacrosse on ESPN.”
Sunday’s game will feature the first-ever matchup of Western Conference All-Stars against their counterparts from the East. Major League Lacrosse and New Balance have partnered with the Wounded Warrior Project for the All Star Game. Players will wear limited edition camouflage jerseys that will be auctioned with proceeds benefiting the project. New Balance will match the final amount raised. The auction will start before the game and will continue on www.majorleaguelacrosse.com through July 18.
“It’s an amazing move by the league,” Powell said. “It’s very important for the game to latch on to things that we believe in. Any opportunity that we have as players or representatives of the league to give back to anyone, we’ll certainly do so.”
One thing is clear: lacrosse is a growing sport. As Powell said, “It’s important for people to understand that the game of lacrosse is on the rise. It will be more of a warning that lacrosse will be in towns all over the world. This All-Star Game will be played with a lot more intensity (than other sports). It will be good.”

Sonny,
You thought Oregon's blacks were brutal? Just try doing this game. Or a Padres home date when they honor the military.

Those announcers will need some good spotters in the booth.

Just remember folks, because they are called "talent" - doesn't mean that they are talented!
