Eddie Johnson drew a PK in the first 10 minutes and scored.....and that lead lasted a minute as Argentina scored the tying goal a minute or so later.
1-1 after 17 minutes right now.

Perfect start, except that just motivated Argentina, and they didnt really need it. EJ almost looked like he knew what he was doing out there draiwing the penalty kick, although methinks he did it by accident while trying to cut it back.
US is playing like it needs, in a bunker and counterattacking. My man Benny is doing awesome and I'm impressed by Bornstein, Wynne, and COnrad. Rico Clark looks overmatched and thats who i thought would do ok against ARG. Twellman is proving why he'll never make the team for a major competition outside the US soil.

thats what class and European experience look like. US held on for 65 minutes and then couldnt do it anymore. there were no field leaders there. Benny F tried. he will anchor the midfield for years to come and we can finally sit down Mastroeni. Keller can only do so much.
These rookies will show something if they get a draw this tournament and show fight. Getting out of the group stage is next to impossible. Thanks to Paraguay for hanging 5 goals on Colombia. We'll need a miracle to advance, or to beat Paraguay by more than 1 goal, have them lose to Argentina, and to beat Colombia outright.

US lost to Paraguay 3-1. We controlled the game, but couldnt put away any of about 17 clear chances for goal, including breakaways. ive read some articles that are calling the misses "Beasley's". Thats funny.
Ironically, the US still has a slight chance to advance to the knockout phase if they can beat Colombia by at least 2-0 (more goals would help) and Mexico beats Chile by at least 2-0 (more goals against would help). that would tie us with Chile for the 2nd best 3rd place team, which is the last qualifying spot, and the US would go through on goal difference.

The US U-20 team, that is led by 14 pro players including Freddy Adu, Jozy Altidore, and MIchael Bradley, are in the U-20 World Cup in Canada.
They tied the first game with S. Korea, who are apparently still motivated by the 2002 SLC Olympics when the S. Korean skater was DQ'd to give Apolo Ohno the gold medal. Korea cotrolled the game but the US scored one against the run of play in the first few minutes and held on, 1-1
Last night, they destroyed Poland 6-1. Freddy got a hat trick, Szetela scored 2, and Jozy got one. Man of the match was Sal Zizzo from UCLA. the best thing is that Poland scored in the first 5 minutes, then the US settled down and took controlled of the match. They went up but didnt take their foot off the peddle.
They are top of the Group and have a match with Brazil coming up next. They can win the group with a victory, advance with a draw or even a loss. this is good.
