The people who camped out this morning were the same group that camped out about 15 years ago for the launch of the Game Cube.

I'll wait for the 2nd generation, myself and thank them all for driving the price of Apple stock through the roof!

I am waiting for the second generation as well. Per article in today's paper, current iPhone uses the EDGE data network (or wifi). EDGE is 1/4 speed of Verizon /sprint for data transmission. At&T is upgrading data network, but when it is done, the old phones won't work on the faster network - will still only work on slower EDGE network.

Also, iPhone allows you to view, but not edit, word and excel documents. Not ok for me.....


But I have to admit, my decision to wait is really taking alot of willpower to maintain.

The flip side is that the iPhones can use a wifi network, which I think ends up being faster than any phone network (but only, of course, where wifi is available). Most cell phones and similar devices can't use wifi.

It sounded like the other reason Apple went with ATT was that the ATT network is accessible to 270 million people, which is probably good if you travel.

I'm not an early adopter for these kinds of things (well, except that I bought my first computer in 1981!), so I won't be jumping on the bandwagon anytime soon, but I hope a lot of people do.

Lax Ref is correct - it is much faster thatn either. And that capability IS a strength of iPhone. BUT - unless you are in a "free" wifi area (more and more rare at least in my experience) Wifi is another expense, thus adding to cost. Not sure I'm ok with that given I cannot edit documents on the iPHone...

yeah, i don't think it will be great as a business-type phone. it is gonna be compatible with microsoft exchange and corporate email, but i don't know if that's gonna change the minds of the corporate world.

anywho, i can't wait to get one. my buddy is standing in line today. i'm gonna diddle with his for a little while and then probably go splurge in the next couple weeks.

Microsoft document editing software will be available in September.....per the launch of the Mac Office 2007 software...they will be releasing a mobile version of it as well...per the Apple Store in Ridgedale....so just sit tight for a couple of months....

Per the edge network...Tmobile uses the edge network as well, which is actually fast and more reliable than that of the Verizion and Sprint networks....actually Edge is used by blackberry (which I have on my pearl, and is ridicously fast as compared to some of the older versions for most PDA...Blackberry has a proprietary edge network)

They actually tried to get Verizon first. In which case I would have probably gotten one. But I despise despise despise Cingular/ATT.
