A&M cleared the bench at the Half and got some new blood on the field.

At the end, things got pretty sloppy. Flags flew all over the place and at one point A&M had 3 men in the box. Apparently Tony is a marked man by the refs with three penalties in two games. Texas State put in two late goals to make it a little closer.

Maybe it wasn't 20, but it was never really in question. Rumor has it that one of A&M horses might have been injured early in the third, and that may have played a little part in the final score.

Another big tune up next week for A&M under the lights at their high school tournament, against U of H, before they are really tested against Auburn and Colorado State in Arlington.

It does matter how bad their defense is either way. The offense won't be able to always control the ball when they play an aggressive defensive team that won't let them settle it down...

I saw OSU and Baylor both in the fall. At the time, Baylor looked like a decent team with potential. OSU has a long way to go, they should have played in the B division. A bunch of really nice guys, just not a lacrosse team yet.

Having the same officials for both games in a weekend can be stressful before the second game even starts, especially if there were problems the first day. But because of travel arrangements, that is usually what happens on double-header weekends when officials have to come from out of town. Of course, Tony is a great coach and a super guy off the field, but he has been known occasionally to get a little excited during games. Still, it is opening weekend and team is still working out the kinks. I'm sure things will settle down soon, especially if they do well in Arlington.

Game wasn't close until the last 5 minutes when Tech let up on a 6 goal lead.

Just wanted to chime in on SMU lax. To answer Grant Neeley, yes we do have a Denver defender; however, he was unable to make the game on Saturday as well as one of our senior captains. The official score was 13-12 in favor of Tech. Both teams have immense talent, and I look forward to the opportunity to play them again. SMU had problems clearing the ball, and Tech took advantage of their second chances. They led by four or five goals for most of the game until we made a push in the fourth quarter. Hats off to Tech, and good luck to them for the rest of the season.
To answer questions about a soft schedule and fizzling out at the end of the year . . . being only in our third year of Div. A lacrosse, we're still working out the kinks as far as organization. We have all necessary Div. A North games as well as an OOC game against Kansas and now thanks to Tony Scazzero a game against E. Michigan. The Div. B games were scheduled in order to have our annual parents' weekend, and the game against TCU for shear proximity purposes. If you'll notice, every Div. A game is away, so don't think that doens't factor into the equation. I look forward to a successful season as we have the best talent we've pretty much ever had here. As the year progresses, things will get better situated as well as planning for next year and years to come. Good luck to all, and I look forward to seeing yall in the near future.

I'd be worried if the coach of a team didn't get excited during the course of a game. Tony's always headed up some solid A&M teams...great leader.

1. Are both goalies a step down from Hughes? I think it depends if you are talking about Hughes of two years ago...he was out of his mind at times like when BYU came to CST. As far as the two new goalies go…both have great skills and a totally different style than Hughes and each other. Also, Hughes was a 3 year starter at A&M so he was definitely comfortable out there and familiar with all the top teams in the nation. I expect the two current goalies to have moments of greatness but they will still be vulnerable until they get some confidence and get comfortable playing out there.

2. Does Lil' Deeke play like a rookie at times? I don't really think so. He may be a little hesitant at times, but I think that's normal as he works into the system. Also, that question will probably be answered best after the big games against CSU and Auburn in two weeks.


As far as the Tony thing with the refs...well Tony I'm sure got a little excited out there...but the refs were sure quick to throw a few flags. I've witnessed all three of those refs either throughout high school or the LSA and two just have problems making good calls not matter what team you play for...but that's just the game in Texas. When you play in Texas you have to know that the refs are going to make bad calls...you just have to play the game. I don't think anyone has lost a game simply because of the refs.

And that is why you will probably never see someone from Texas ref a big game at nationals...Just ask some of the players who have traveled to the great state of Texas to play ball, they ref a totally different game.
