Richard was one of the nicest and most genuine lacrosse fans that I have ever met in this whole club lacrosse thing. We had several chats at last year's finals in Dallas and I was looking forward to more this summer...
I had promised to bring him a Griz Lacrosse T-Shirt to trade for one of those Goucho/Godfather shirts (what started our conversations last year)... the little things... my condolences to the family and to the USCB program.

I had the opportunity to play under the watchful eyes of Richard for three years in high school. He genially cared about every pass and shot, not just by Nick and Ben, but all of us. For the last three years he has made the effort to watch some of my games at the UofO during Nationals, making sure to comment whenever possible. I have many memories of Richard that I'll never forget! RIP.

Last Sunday April 15th a Memorial Service was held for Richard. I would guess at least 200 people or more were there. Many people from the Bay Area lacrosse community as well as many of Richard's golf circle and his law practise collegues. It was a very touching service.

What struck me most was that regardless of where someone knew Richard from their experience with him was the same. He spoke truth to power, expressed his views agressively, was always cracking a joke and was completely irreverent! It left me realizing that to know Richard was to know a completely authentic man. We'll all miss him.

My condolences to the Schooler family. I got to meet Nick this week and he had the Blue Velvet pin on. Just from the few discussions we had, it sounded like Blue Velvet had a profound impact on these message boards, the MCLA, and the UCSB team.

Let us keep the Schooler family in our prayers as we remember a great member of our family.

I also noticed a BV sticker that was put on the SB guy's helmets in the back corner which I thought was a real nice gesture.

You can see half the sticker in this shot (partially blocked by chin strap). Nice tribute, Gauchos! Ole!

I had the honor this week to work alongside Nick Schooler at the tournament. I didn't know Blue Velvet, only enjoyed his posts like a lot of you, but if his son is any indication of the man he was, he must have been a really great guy.
