I will say this -- If you don't get chill bumps after watching those commercials, you aren't human.

Yeah, O'Leary's the man.

I should have been the voice though.

the lack of any b team (or umll team) in the commercial is a little annoying but still a solid piece.

I am guessin on this, but I think I am right. The videos were made well before the tournament and filming was only done at a view specific spots, if you look it is just about all RMLC and WCLL teams, and throw in Michigan. I think the new one he is putting together will have a little bit from all the teams at the tournament. You can't really expect the guy to fly all over the place to get video for a one minute long commercial. We got no love in it either in the PNCLL, but I still liked it.

I don't want to diminish Mike's work -- but what is the message in these two videos?

My guess would be awareness of the league. Thats one of the things we are working on, if Im not mistaken.

Why would we want to advertise the development league? I kid, I kid

If I remember right, doesn't he travel with the Michigan team? I remember seeing him when they were here with CSU. Personally I think the videos are awesome, well done!

No he doesn't. He usually joins up with us once or twice a year to put together a themed team video each year. He was in St. Louis that weekend partly for that and partly to film for this project.

"This is the MCLA"   What is?  Who is?  What conferences?  College?  High school?  Who's faces are those?

If I didn't already know what the MCLA was this isn't helping me become aware of who or what the MCLA is.   The purpose of the a "commercial" is to sell something and you can't sell it if the audience doesn't know what the product is.

Listen to the words.

It tells how many teams, from how many conferences and the national level of what we do.

And the images clearly indicate we're a lacrosse organization.

I listened to the words.  And this is what I learned:

1. it's lacrosse
2. 200 teams
3. 9 conferences

This still leaves the question What is the MCLA?  is it college?  high school?  pro?  What does it stand for?  Who are the teams? Only a couple can be recognized.  The MCLA is Michigan, Miami, Boston College, Oregon.   The identities of the Universities is will give the MCLA legitimacy and recognizability.

I don't think it is clear.  If this were an NFL "commercial" it might work, since people know globally what the NFL is and recognize its players.

It's got 3 eyes, a kick starter and comes in a yellow box. Great, but what is it?

I disagree.

It's obviously not pro or hs - the recognizable helmets (thank you wolverines) make that clear. We don't need to identify each team. And should not at this point.

This is a "league awareness" video/spot and As our first shot does it very well.

How would you change it? Too much detail in 30 seconds will get lost.

I was going to wait to start answering questions, because the article coming out soon will do a much better job---I can't, however, pass up the opportunity to go at it with an Ohio State fan.

I see these videos as more of branding PSA's than commercials. There's no product to sell, we're trying to increase awareness. So how do we go about doing that? OSUlaxfan is right that at first glance there isn't a lot of information in the videos other than some numbers and faces. However, they aren't infomercials, they aren't supposed to forced feed you data. They are shot entirely in HD, narrated and scored (music) by NFL Films, and display imagery of talented, passionate and exciting lacrosse. That is the MCLA.

I don't want people to watch these videos and say, "OK, that's the MCLA," and flip the channel. I want people to become as excited about this league as I am and go support the teams. OSUlaxfan, if you are looking for a product to buy, you won't find it in the videos...Sonny has some killer Collegelax shirts though.

My point exactly -- you shouldn't have to answer questions -- the videos should answer them.  There is a product, it's the MCLA and I still don't know what it is.  So I watch these videos then wait for an article to explain them?  I think the opportunity is lost at that point.  Do I need a decoder ring too?

A PSA is still selling something.  Awareness to who?  The coaches of the MCLA?  The 10 people that got goose-bumps in the press box?  That isn't the target audience.   To increase awareness, you have to first explain what it is.  Simply saying  "Men's Collegiate Lacrosse Association."  would have been enough.  Added a web address for more info -- anything.

:30 seconds is plenty of time.  Instead of taking the chance of details getting lost they were just left out?  The strength of the MCLA is in the schools that participate not the sunsets over the rec fields behind the science building.

Fake HD and an NFL films voice doesn't give it validity.  If that were the case, I'd get porno on ABC at 8pm.
