Does anyone have a list of the all tourney players for A and B? I have not been able to find either of the lists.

And congrats to BYU and Montana.

A & B All-Tournament Players

Postby jmaxwell2 on Sun May 20, 2007 5:01 pm

The "A" Division winners are referenced in the article about BYU's win over Oregon. I did not see any reference to "B" Division winners. Also, when I was at the game I heard them announce Scout "Turtle" Miller as a winner in the "A" Division as a "Specialist", but it is not indicated in BYU/Oregon game article. Based on what I say, the talent of "Turtle" was all hype with no substance.

This is coming off my memory so this is not 100% but I am fairly sure this was the team:

Division A

A - Mark Davis, BYU
A - Danny Stevens, CSU
A - Clay Knope, Oregon

M - Jason Aloma, Northeastern
M - Tyler Monteath, BYU
M - Pat Bird, Colorado State

D - Chris Ward, Boston College
D - Doug Abate, UCSB
D - Ian Wilson, Colorado State

G - Jake Launert, Duluth
FOGO - Scott Miller, Oregon
LSM - Murphy Smith, BYU

Divison B

A - Townsend Hall, Montana
A - Roman Schoewe, Westminster
A - John Ongjoco, St. John's

M - James Brand, Westminster
M - Dan Brueske, St. John's
M - Patrick Weinandy, Dayton

D - Kevin Nameth, Dayton
D - Josh Gronvold, Harding
D - Dan Willman, St. John's

G - Colin Connery, Montana
FOGO - Travis Sargent, Montana
LSM - Brennan Harrington, St. John's

Like I said, I am not 100% sure but pretty sure on these.

This statement does not hold water. I saw video from the tournament, in slow motion, of Miller clamped on the ball before before his opponent had even twitched, literally. It did not happen just once, rather it happened in the majority of the face offs in the game I watched on tape.

That being said, BYU's Neil Watterson was able to equal Miller on Saturday. Neil won the first 3 face offs and Miller was heard by one fan to say to his coach something along the lines of "I don't know what to do". It should also be known that Neil is a Freshman.

An amendment to the post above: Neil was 57% against Miller.

How did he do against UMD's FOGO Ryan Groom?

Groom beat him a lot, but i think by the time it was all said and done, it was probably about 50%. You do have to remember guys that when a face off is won it is the team that has the ball when there is possesion so it isn't always the guy that gets the clamp. That being said, I think Turtle's best game was against CSU where he did much better than the UMD or BYU games.

CSU game was not an indication of anyone's ability. If you read Flip's Journal just prior to and after the first game you will realize that CSU had not even had an outdoor game prior to their first game with Oregon and did not even have a designated face-off person prior to April of this year as indicated further along in Flip's Journel. Furthermore, I did not see anywhere near a clinic put on be Mr. Miller. Although he is good, I don't feel that he is the dominant force that has been built-up by the fans or web page of the Oregon Ducks.

CSU game was not an indication of anyone's ability. If you read Flip's Journal just prior to and after the first game you will realize that CSU had not even had an outdoor PRACTICE prior to their first game with Oregon DUE TO POOR WEATHER CONDITIONS and did not even have a designated face-off person prior to April of this year as indicated further along in Flip's Journel. Furthermore, I did not see anywhere near a clinic put on be Mr. Miller. Although he is good, I don't feel that he is the dominant force that has been built-up by the fans or web page of the Oregon Ducks.

I spoke to Ryan Groom of UMD after the game he played against Oregon and he indicated that he beat Turtle to the clamp significantly more times then Turtle beat him, but also indicated that the Oregon wings were very good at picking up the loose balls, which reduced his face-off wins, but not as low as the 50% level.

yes i was, thanks. I meant his best game of the tournament was the CSU game and that is where he played the best. He essentially won it for them in OT by securing the face off clean and CSU never saw the ball again.

If he was speaking of their most recent game against CSU, I don't think Turtle did very well in that game either.

One face-off at the end of the game does not make up for the rest of the game, which appeared to be pretty much a 50% split for each face-off person, based on my physical observation and the CSU face-off person was only the designated face-off guy since April. Turtle has been doing this for 4 years.

I don't have the stats in front of me but I am pretty sure Turtle won more than his fare share against CSU in the Semis including the first 6 or 7 of the game (which helped Oregon slow down CSU's opening run allowing the Ducks to stay in the game) on top of the one in OT.
