Yes, this would be their chance. However, they were not even competitive aganst Sonoma, so the odds are against them against a higher rated team.

in what could be considered poor scheduling, UCF takes 2nd game of double header at the Cocoa Beach Expo Center (make-up for 3/10 rain-out):
UCF 13
Central Michigan 12
UCF overcame a 3 goal deficit in the 4th qtr and scored the game winner with :04 left on the clock.
Good luck to Stone Hill and CMU, two classy programs.

Guess they decided to play the game, despite the projected non-competitiveness.
Final from Santa Barbara, CA this afternoon:
UCSB 13, Fla State 8

The odds were against them and that turned out to be true. They played hard, no doubt. Nobody said they wouldn't. However, based on the games over the last week out in California, I still maintain that VT is the team to beat in the SELC.

Agreed
After playing VT, I say they are the team to beat. It was 1-0 after the first quarter and I feel we could have played them a lotbetter, but what I feel will be the difference between the two teams is the defense. FSU has a great offense (as does VT), but what I saw from VT was one of the best defenses they have had in years. It was just solid.....plain and simple. Nothing fancy, just great team defense. Heh, woulda been nice for VT to beat Sonoma....man I woulda loved to see that.....
oh and for those who care, UT 13 (or something) Clemson 7 or 8 (think it was ......[/b]

SELC
Judging from afar I'd say 2005 has been one of the SELC's most impressive showings ever, so far anyway. Close, competitive losses to elite teams and wins over solid, ranked second-tier teams. My sources in California echo what was posted above, that while FSU is a very good team and GT is solid, the "smart money" should be on VT. The Hokies look to have one of those special teams this year, the kind which wins league titles.
