Southwestern in MCLA tourney

Southwestern in MCLA tourney

Eventhough I was not at PHP in person, I have been paying close attention to the live scores. It would have been nice to see Southwestern win a game this week (I really don't like the words, "moral victories"), SU deserves to be commended for filling in at the last minute which shows its commitment; furthermore, they have shown they have played the last two close games. It would be nice to hear anyone from LSA having to say about the SU team.

Hope the goalie from Northern Colorado is still okay after hitting his head against an immobile SU guy last Monday.

SU played well all three games, given the roller coaster ending to the season and the timing of their bid to the tournament. There was one key player unable to make the trek, but all members of the team were able to earn some time on the field and contribute to the tournament games. The seniors played their hearts out after not having a chance to conclude their season at the LSA championships. Southwestern continues to show that it can be a competitive team at the national level and should be proud of their #12 ranking in the final poll.

As another poster stated in a different forum, there are 90 teams in the B division that would have loved to have been in Frisco this week. SU was honored to represent the LSA and return to the national stage.

The goalie for Northern Colorado is fine. His neck xrays returned negative and I heard from a UNC parent that he was back at the field the next day, although I do not know if he was in a game or not. It was one of the more scary moments I have seen in a long time. Below are links to two shots from the hit. According to the camera, they were taken less than 1 second apart.

SU's attackman is a big, solid kid. To charge, head down into him (at roughly 280 lbs) is going to hurt.

While in my career going 1-3 against them, i have first hand experience of the level that Southwestern can play at. It is unfortunate that they were unable to play in the LSA Championships at Ford Field, but I am glad that they were able to represent the LSA in the National Championships. Coach Bowman is one of top two or three coaches that the LSA has to offer (in either division) and it always amazes me how they continue to get talent at that school, being a small private school.

While I never enjoyed playing against Southwestern, I always considered them to be a top-notch program and one that is to be admired.
