WCLL Quarter final schedule

After getting smoked by Arizona today, it is very hard to justify Sonoma's ranking in the top 10, or maybe even them going to the tournament. Beating the #'s 19,20, and 21 teams, and losing to anyone ranked in the top 10 should not guarantee you a tournament birth. I am tired of people arguing for them based on what they have done in past seasons. Sonoma has been a solid team in the past, but this is simply not their year.

I didn't see a score posted anywhere so...:
(unofficially via a player's cell phone)
Arizona 15
Sonoma 5
Sorry if this is a repeat.

I could agree with you more, ASU is much more worthy of an at large invitation even if their D isn't so great. They still have shown they can pull off some big upsets and may not win the National Championship but they sure could make it a bit more interesting. It would be sad not to see Sonoma at the nationals but it's a brave new world this year in college lacrosse & their schedule just didn't come close to UCSB, ASU & then the laxcats gave them an old fashioned beat down tonight.Theflow wrote:After getting smoked by Arizona today, it is very hard to justify Sonoma's ranking in the top 10, or maybe even them going to the tournament. Unofficially:
Gauchos - 10
Cal-3
UCSB vs. U of A in the final, this could go either way...
Two great coaches, who do things the right way. Should be a great one.
GO GAUCHOS!!!!!!!!!!!
and before I forget, Hopkins for Coach of the year, and put ASU in the dance. They more than deserve it!
Send our best or change the play-off format. Period

Maybe the pollsters will wake up and see how completely overated Sonoma has been this year. It's unbelievable that they remain in the top ten. I just think they've set up such a soft schedule that they've stayed under the radar all season. They should be below 10 IMHO!

I saw Sonoma play once this year, and based on that game alone I'd say they belong in Dallas. Maybe they just played well that day...

I said this after the first 2 polls came out this season. Seems that others are coming to this realization now. Perhaps the pollsters will take notice.

My comment wasn't directed directly at you Cricket...it was more about the general tone of the comments on the board that 'Noma might not be deserving of a spot in the tournament.

Thank you for your words of wisdom, especially after the Gauchos lost to Chapman 13 - 3 you did no relent. But now lets take a look at how overrated Santa Barbara will be when the next poll comes out.

I love all this talk about Chapman. If you want to compare scores, don't forget when Chapman couldn't clear and lost to Arizona this year, which SB just beat. The Gauchos just won the WCLL, where would you like them ranked?
Guess what, you're right Chapman was GREAT this year and they would of had a chance to win it all. A CHANCE....but here is the funny thing about coaching, as I mentioned earlier, you have to go about it the right way.
There are two things, first if you want to give them the paper championship, go ahead, cause no ones cares about what could or should have been; and two, you coach, practice, and play a long time for that one year, when you have a chance. Cause that is all that you can ask for, a chance to compete and try for the 'ship. To throw all that away cause of not following protocol and monitoring academic standings (these kids are STUDENT-athletes by the way) is one of the most irresponsible, selfish, and ignorant things I have ever heard of.
Everyone makes mistakes and things happen. But this is not the first time in the last 10 years that Chapman has been disciplined for playing with ineligible players. How many times is it going to take, how many opportunities are the majority of the kids on the team going to have to unfairly miss out on, before they follow the rules?
They wasted the eligiblity of the best offensive player in the league, the talent around him, and as I said, a chance at a championship for what? Pathetic...
