I hate to break it to you.

These numbers I gave are practically the same as yours. I said the majority of muslims in Iran are Shi'ite. Also, you said earlier that shi'ite and sunni are analogous to catholic and protestant. So, how can you not say they are religions? Just as catholics and protestants, they are seperate denominations of a singe religion, but you still say catholic religion, don't you? You don't just call them christians. My minor is in international relations and international religion. I go to a bible school, So I don't need a sad rehash of a lecture I just received two weeks ago. You can say whatever you want and prove to me that you know alot, but it doesn't change the fact that your opinion is biased and ridiculous to believe ultra conservatives are the only enemys out there. But thanks for the history lesson. I needed that for my final. Actually, not really.

btriley01 wrote:See, now I understand the ignorance of where you come from. The Shi'ite muslim religion only represents 10% of the muslim population in the world. Guess where they all live. Ok, i'll tell you: Iran. They have openly declared war on all jews, secular governments, and anyone who believes in any western civil philosophy. Gee, sounds a little extreme, don't ya think? They are the fundamentalists of which you speak. All of the lovely Zealots of our age, including Al Sadir and Ahmedinijiad (spelling not perfect), are Shi'ite muslims. now what was that about immature intellect. I think the saying goes take the log out of your own eye.

Quotes like these won't get you far in international business. Blanket statements about Shia Islam being "the problem" and "guess where they ALL live" (as if the mere fact that you live in Iran makes you a problem) and "all the zealots of our age....are (Shia)" are really ignorant, I'm sorry.

All the 9/11 hijackers were sunni (as is Osama himself). Saddam was Sunni. The Taliban were Sunni. Best of all, Eric Rudoph was a zealot. A Southern Baptist zealot who lived in Iran. Oh wait. No, I guess he lived in the heart of Dixie..................

For the record, I never said "all Christians". I reflected, in a simple question (which in a kneejerk reaction -- from Christians and fiscally conservative republicans alike -- was taken as an overt attack on everyone who ever had a reason to vote for Bush II.

Read the current president is a Republican, or I could be drastically mistaken...? Who was inferred?

Obviously if the next president is a democrat they almost assured of being pro-choice, etc etc etc and would that be likely to drive the Religious Right to new extremes? As I recall, the last time we had a democratic president there were more than a few right wing lash outs at society.

What does that infer? oh yeah you told us...

Abortion clinic bombings, Olympic Park Bombing, Oklahoma City bombing, gay bar bombings, and assassinations of doctors who performed abortions.

Should we all keep quiet or should I go look up the stats for the abortion clinic bombing while Republicans were in office? You don't have to say Zealots if you beat around the "Bush" long enough. I'm still confused as to the defense of your position. I know that it is truly not an easy thing to do online, or even in person, but I'm confused as to why the "Religion Right" has to hit "new extremes." Why isn't it random psycho's? Why is the "Liberal Left" so conflict free? [/quote]

Have you never seen "Jesus Camp"?

Again, I'm not talking about all Republicans, only the most extreme of the religious right who currently reside in that party.

I don't even think Bush is on the Relgious Right. I think he courts them, but I do not think he represents them, and I think they would say the same thing. He represents, however, a vehicle through which those of the extreme view feel that they can operate, which is not the same view they hold of any democrats.

I'd love for you to look up the abortion clinic bombings and correlate them to years and therefore those in control of both the whitehouse and congress. I'd love even more to visit websites you use to find such statistics.

Woodlawn, I would tend to agree. Many issues that align with the religious right's ideology Bush could care less about.
