PNCLL final division standings-

PNCLL final division standings-

Postby neil on Tue Mar 08, 2005 6:28 pm

Alright, I'll be the jerk to instigate the fight here- and hopefully as a fun sidenote make Kyle's job as moderator a little more difficult. Just kidding, kinda. So here's the question... who is going to Nationals from the PNCLL this year? Is the SOS of OSU or UW strong enough to go on an at large bid? Can the PNCLL send an unprecedented 3 teams to Blaine?

There will need to be some SERIOUS climbing in the national rankings in order for UW or OSU to get an at-large bid-not impossible, but really, really difficult. . .they will need to win the league most likely. . .

And if UW was to run the table, it would drop UO and SFU into dangerous territory to get an at-large bid.

But I guess, if Oregon and SFU were to do damage out of conference and maintain top-10 ratings. . .and then UW, OSU or GU won the season-ending playoffs???

Pretty far-fetched. . .but Neil you asked the question. . .

Kinda off the topic but how many ooc games does a team need to be eligible for an at large bid?

At-Large

Postby Dan Wishengrad on Wed Mar 09, 2005 1:27 am

You need to be play THREE ooc games against other A teams to make the A tourney as an at-large. Only UO, SFU and UW will play these three games in 2005.

UO's loss to SFU and SFU's loss to UW pretty much guarantees we will not have any top 10 teams when the new poll comes out today. I wonder if we will still have any teams in the Top 15? We should, but one never knows...

UO has ample chance to rise back up in the polls, wins over Sonoma State, Michigan and Colorado would guarantee the Ducks a Top 10 spot. It will be tougher for anybody else to rise into a poll spot high enough for an at-large berth, unless maybe if Oregon wins their big OOC games against higher-ranking opponents but loses the PNCLL title to another team. I'd guess that if UO wins the league, they'd be our only PNCLL (A Division) rep in Blaine. If another team wins the PNCLL, perhaps we will send two teams again...

OSU only has one out of confrence games this year (against Rhode Island). As coach Wish has already said UW, Oregon, and SFU would only be applicable for an at large bid. I think this years play offs are going to be a real battle.

Josh I don't know if you know the answer, but maybe you can add some insight. Why is OSU only playing 8 games this year, with only that one OOC game? You would think that by trying to progress themselves as a team they would want to get in some more games and get some OOC games. They are going for a stretch of almost a month with out playing a game, why?

Poll

Postby neil on Wed Mar 09, 2005 4:41 pm

3 teams in the top 25- two in the top 16- weak schedules could create a scenario where we might never know the potential of the 2005 PNCLL. A lot will be riding on UO's OOC games this year.

In response to OSU only playing 8 games this year I have to take full responsibility. I came into this job a little late and I did not know the madness that scheduling is. That coupled with a tighter budget due to new uniforms, led to a much smaller schedule because our travel had to be curtailed. I take full responsibility for the size of our season. We will just concentrate on turning our 8 games into one hell of a season.

As far as next year goes, we are already working on adding more OOC games.
