Carthage is adding a Div III Men's lacrosse team.

Will the rest of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin be following soon?

If they are hiring one coach for both men's and women's lacrosse... they clearly don't have too much of an idea of what they are getting into.

"Development" of club teams as the first step...that's going to be a hard slog for sure.

It seems like D3 is growing quickly. Isn't Neuman in Kansas Varsity? Also I'd heard Missouri Baptist was going varsity? Isn't there a school in Arkansas going varsity too?

From what I know, Missouri Baptist is an NAIA school, and NAIA currently doesn't offer a championship in lacrosse, so it's a little bit tough to define what "varsity" means in that case. As for Newman, I read that they'd decided to switch the school from NAIA to NCAA Division II, and had made some cuts to programs (perhaps connected to the switch?), not sure where lacrosse fits into the new situation, but given the small number of D2 schools playing varsity lacrosse, it's hard to see D2 lacrosse working out at Newman (just my opinion). All I DO know is that Newman is no longer returning e-mails about having a women's team join the women's club league (CPWLL), so I'm guessing that plan has been shelved for now.

Hendrix in Conway, AR. They have a coaching staff already and should be playing a fall ball schedule this year.

I know we've been in contact with Coach Lichtig, and we should at least be playing a fall ball game, but we have hopes of a spring game as well.

The Hendrix coach is Jeremy Lichtig (SP?), he played for Auburn is a good dude. I'm sure he would be down for a game if you call him.

Conway is 45 minutes this side of Little Rock, so tag on maybe an extra 2 hours. I know they would be ready facility wise to host us. As far as hosting them, along with other teams, we'd love to. We'll continue to look into it.

To get back to CCIW lacrosse. I have some serious doubts about Carthage being the catalyst for a full set of CCIW lacrosse schools. I see two problems.

1. As pointed out above, the example of a completely new program will not encourage other schools to follow with programs of their own. A better example for the other schools would be if Augie or Wheaton (honestly, Augie would be the best example, you guys have done a GREAT job in the last two years) moved up to a D-III program. I just can't see a program that is coached by a single mens and women's coach instilling much confidence in the rest of the schools.

2. TITLE 9.
A lot of CCIW schools are pretty small and would have a hard time supporting a D-III team and meeting Title 9 standards. I've spoken to a Wheaton Athletics official and was basically told that couldn't happen the way things are now. From what I understand Wheaton would have to pickup both a D-III men's and women's program and just doesn't have the budget to take it all one at once.

As much as I would love to see the CCIW schools in NCAA lacrosse competition, I don't think it will be happening any time soon and not based on the example of one school's start-up program. Augie, I think you're our best bet.
I am not a part of the Wheaton Lacrosse team nor do I speak for or represent them.
