What happened to UNCW?
I used to play for UNCW 4 years ago when we were a part of the ACLA (atlantic collegent lacrosse association). the league collapsed and I transfered out to Oregon. I never really heard what happened to the teams of the ACLA, I see some of them were absorbed by the SELC. Does anyone know what happened to UNCW?

I thought they had become the Cape Fear Lacrosse Club, more of a post-grad club with college players, but I could be wrong.

The Cape Fear men's team has been around off and on for more than a few years and were separate from the Seahawks. From talking to one of my friends last year, I believe they were playing in the NCLL with a few games against the UNC club and some other NCLL teams and looking at the SELC to join. Don't know if they've now merged with the men's team as most of the kids I grew up with who were on the team have graduated. I'll ask some people back home to try and dig up some info.

When I was with the Ft Bragg NC club team, UNCW went back and forth as to having their own team, and playing as Cape Fear. (91-99)

I went to Charleston in the fall to play for the Myrtle Beach LC in some games against Cape Fear and Charleston LC. Only one guy from Cape Fear showed up, and he said it was because most of the players went to UNCW and were taking exams.

Unfortunately, that is par for the course in what we learned to expect from Cape Fear. They were less than consistent in meeting their away commitments. Too bad, because they were a decent team that was fun to play and also tailgate with. You just had to go to Wilmington to be guaranteed the game.

Hey, the rec field at the beach was awesome. But it sucked when we had a croud of two hundred (conservatively), vendors selling actual beer (only way to attract soldiers to an event) and officials, for them not to show. They didn't even call... I had to track their pres down to be told twenty minutes before gametime.
Needless to say he had a target on him next time we played.
But you are right...Fayetteville is not a cure for boredome. I didn't lose anything there, don't feel the need to go back.

Man I remember when I was at UNCW that we had trouble getting their mens team to play us AT UNCW! that was like 5 miles from the wrightsville beach field. I remember also that we had some pretty good games with Elon and ECU (I think ECU beat us everytime, but it was fun). back then we would go to the ECU tournament in the fall and play some rediculous teams like Calvert County md, and Towsons club team, which had D-I players on it. I never played in Fayettnam, but we played in greenville a couple times and it was loads of fun. ahh those were the good ol' days. now I'm in rainy ass oregon. and I feel old writing this.

I may be wrong, but I just saw the NYU men's lacrosse website and it says there is a tourney going on at UNCW on March 19-20. My question is... will it still be held? Hey, I checked out the UNCW men's lacrosse website and it was dated 2002!! They don't even have its most current, update website. It is actually more of an introductory "website." The New York University men's club lacrosse website is at:

most people would be pretty surprised how unorganized the NCLL league is. in all honesty it is probably some of the most fun lacrosse i have ever played. It is nothing but a good time. Also some of the teams in that league would blow all of the SELC teams out of the water. Everyone on Maryland and UVA's club teams played four years of high school lacrosse and a lot of the teams have many division 1 red shirts playing club. I would say UNCW plays some very competitive teams.
